Ontario County, like many areas across the state, is facing a housing crisis. If elected, one of my top priorities will be ensuring affordable housing for working families. Phelps is uniquely positioned to meet this challenge—we have easy interstate access and are ideally located between Rochester and Syracuse. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel—we can look to towns like Mendon that have struck a balance between rural charm and smart development.

For too long, Phelps has been stalled under the same outdated ideas and influences. Talk of a travel plaza off Exit 42 may have once seemed promising, but that vision is no longer aligned with our community’s needs. The last hotel there became a hub for trafficking, and fuel prices will always be lower just one exit away due to Seneca County’s fuel tax cap.

What our town truly needs is opportunity—for young families, for working people, for anyone who dreams of putting down roots. I believe Phelps can be that place again. But we can’t move forward if we’re stuck in the past.

Let’s chart a bold new course. Let’s build the future Phelps deserves.

Why does exit 42 on the Thruway, between Rochester and Syracuse, continue to be the most underdeveloped exit, and what factors have contributed to this long-standing issue? Supporting Doug Smith's candidacy for Phelps Town Supervisor could be instrumental in propelling the Town of Phelps forward.

A Town Supervisor is responsible for fiscal oversight, enforcement of rules, laws and regulations and for supervising the everyday business of a town. Their vote carries no more weight than a Town Board member nor is it ever a tie breaker.
Town government is about YOUR ideas and about recruiting ideas and investment from outside.
My posts are factual and not meant to be negative but rather informative.
I was referred to today as a, "Pig," because I am running against another former police officer and it was inferred that I somehow broke a brotherhood. You lose that status when you fail to seek justice for victims and have your Police Certification revoked by the state. Police brotherhood isn't about covering up bad police work, unjustified use of force or any other egregious act.
I've presented my resume and that of my opponent. Who would you hire?

Was escorted out of the Office of Sheriff in 2023 after he failed to act on multiple investigations including child abuse and child neglect

After 1 1/2 years has failed to commit to set office hours

Took credit for lowering the tax rate when increased revenue was actually caused by inflated property values created by a housing shortage

Secured an underwhelming amount of grants for the TOWN.

My many years at OCSO, specializing in financial investigations and my high case clearance rate make me the better candidate for fiscal oversight and enforcement of rules, regulations and laws!

Are you aware that the Finger Lakes region experiences higher prices for certain consumable goods due to a lack of modern warehousing and cold storage facilities? These facilities require easy access to an interstate and generate well-paying jobs. I have an interested investor. Like and follow for more.

This might sound familiar to those who were gracious enough to lend an ear while Lisa and I were out stomping. If you are on the fence about who to vote for in the upcoming primary, please reach out. I would be happy to discuss what I have to offer to the Town of Phelps as your next Town Supervisor. I'm glad to see another municipality has identified an issue and that they are going to address it.

I have a few more yard signs, let me know if you would like one.

Phelps, it's time for change!

To be honest, I’m not a big political sign guy. If you vote for me in the upcoming primary, I would hope that it is based on my merit rather than the number or size of some sign I stick in your yard and which causes an inconvenience every time you have to mow. I understand that it’s just part of the program, to remind people who is running and perhaps subliminally tell them who to vote for. If you follow me or if I have been by to speak with you and you liked what I had to say, please remind your friends and neighbors who and why I am running for Town Supervisor. I do have signs, if you’d like one, please message me. Thanks.

I want to thank my wife, Lisa (Spence) Smith for all her support in this first experience of seeking an elected public service office. Together we have spent countless hours knocking on doors and speaking with the citizens of the Town of Phelps. Every night is a true upper body workout for all 5'2" of her climbing out of and into my truck (no running boards) at each stop. I truly love this woman and feel very blessed that I was able to talk her into spending her life with me.

On Monday I was humbled to receive an American Legion Post 396 2025 Commander's Cannon Award For Exceptional Volunteer from Legion Commander AJ Fratto. I'm glad that I was a part of assisting them to regain financial stability so that they can continue to provide services to the community. American Legions throughout the country provide many community programs. Veteran Services as well as American Legion Baseball, Boys State/Boys Nation, Junior Shooting Sports to name a few.
