🌎Learn about the teaching abroad process in a presentation by retired local teachers Sue and Brad Moffatt on Monday, November 24, at 7:00pm, in the upper level of the Carnegie Building for the Friends of the Library’s last speaker series in 2025. The Moffatts will share some of the incredible adventures they experienced, both in Morocco and Asia, and discuss how raising Third Culture Kids (TCKs) shaped their worldview and their children’s. TCKs are individuals who spent a significant part of their developmental years living outside their parents’ home country.

🔦 Join the Friends of the Petoskey Public Library on Monday, October 27, at 7:00pm, in the upper level of the Carnegie Building, for a presentation by Rick Donahoe about an ongoing local initiative.

For more than two years, a group of 40 members of the local Presbyterian church have been assembling lithium ion battery packs that go inside individual solar light kits. These light kits are distributed for free to people living in eastern Ukraine who have not had electricity for over three years. Eight hours of exposure of the solar panels charging the battery packs results in 24 hours of light or the ability to charge a cell phone.

🎶 Mark your calendars and be sure to join the Friends of the Library for this month's Carnegie Speaker Series! At the September 22 program, we'll be honoring the 25th anniversary of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra!

What began as a small group of passionate musicians from Emmet County has grown into northern Michigan’s premier award-winning orchestra, bringing world-class performances and music education to families across seven counties. Join us at 7:00pm in the upper level of the Carnegie Building, for a presentation by Maestro Libor Ondras, GLCO’s music director. He will share more on GLCO’s story and introduce the season’s concerts. Ondras will also review a fascinating book: Beethoven’s Hair, an astonishing tale of one lock of hair and its amazing travels – from 19th century Vienna to 21st century America.
