Bay View was founded in 1875 by Michigan Methodists as a camp meeting "for intellectual and scientific culture and the promotion of the cause of religion and morality." From its beginning, the Association has welcomed persons of any denominational affiliation who have desired to assist in perpetuating the Association's principles and purpose. By the late 1800's, the Bay View Association had become

a pioneering institution in public education. It boasted an ambitious summer university, a Chautauqua series attracting tens of thousands of visitors, and a home-study program enrolling men and women across the nation. During this period, the raw territory where the early "tent city" was built was transformed into a resort community of such Victorian charm that in 1987, Bay View was designated a National Historic Landmark.

There is something special about seeing familiar faces representing the values of care, compassion, and community.

We are delighted that two members of the Bay View community are featured on the cover of Munson Healthcare’s 2025 Annual Report. Their recognition reflects the many ways individuals throughout our region quietly serve and strengthen northern Michigan every day.

We are also grateful for Munson Healthcare’s continued partnership as a Bay View Season Sponsor for the second consecutive year. Together, we celebrate the importance of community, wellness, and meaningful human connection.

Congratulations to Steve and Kathy Olmsted on this honor.

Many families and educators are asking an important question: What do boys need to truly thrive?

This year, our Bridges: Crossing Cultural Divides lecture welcomes social worker and author Erica Komisar to explore the emotional and developmental needs of boys and young men, and how families, schools, and communities can support their growth.

Parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone who cares about children are warmly invited to join this thoughtful conversation.
