90TH DISTRICT COURT AWARDED GRANTS
FOR ITS TREATMENT COURTS

Veterans in Emmet and Charlevoix counties will soon have additional options available should they find themselves facing some types of charges in the 90th District Court.

The Honorable Angela J. Lasher recently learned the 90th District Court has again been awarded $19,000 in grant funds to boost its sobriety court. The court had received the same grant last year. Lasher’s court was also awarded a grant for $12,000 to facilitate a new veterans treatment court.

I want to use this opportunity to thank so many people to whom I owe such gratitude. This has been a long campaign, and many have contributed in different ways. I cannot list every individual, business, and community group, but I am grateful to all of you – to those who have given your time, to those who have made financial contributions, to those that have placed my signs in your yards and businesses, and to those that have supported me in person and online. I am grateful for the endless support of my family and friends and the strangers who have approached me in the community and sent emails with such kind words.

Thank you to Scott; your love and support, and patience seem to be without limit. You have worked so hard and believed in me every step of the way. You are an incredible partner; I truly found my Marty.

Bennett – we have spent many weekends working on the campaign, and you have never complained. You have been a trooper and taken everything in stride. You are an incredible kid, and I am so lucky to be your mom.

Thank you to two extraordinary women – Melanie Meengs and Christine Webster. It is not possible to express my appreciation to you for the time and energy that you have both devoted to this campaign. A decades-old friendship and a newer one – Scott and I cherish both and will miss the late-night texts. Thank you, Melanie, for being an excellent campaign manager, counselor, strategist, cheerleader, and most importantly, friend. For those who loved my logo and campaign literature as much as I did, all the credit goes to Christine Webster.

Thank you to my parents, aunt and uncle, and my brother, sister-in-law, and three nephews.

Thank you to Bill Kanine, Bill Meengs, Christine Brooks, Michael and Kay McNamara, Courtney Blumke, Corinne Koury, Janet Lewis, Carlin Smith, Bryan Klawuhn, Amanda Miller, Dean Viles, Katrina Martin, and Rus Boyer.

Thank you to all that have publicly endorsed my campaign and publicly placed your name behind my campaign. Thank you to those on social media; I am honored by your actions and your words of support. And thank you to those from law enforcement and the courts that have offered your support privately because you could not publicly.

Finally, thank you to the staffs of the 90th District Court in Charlevoix and Emmet counties; many of you have supported me in various ways through the last few months, and it is greatly appreciated.

I am honored to be elected to continue serving as Judge for the 90th district court. The last year has been filled with many challenges and I am so proud of what my staff and I have been able to accomplish.

I will continue to be fair and respectful to all who come into my courtroom, and I look forward to implementing effective programs, such as the Veteran's court, in my next term.

Thank you to the people of Emmet and Charlevoix counties who supported my campaign!

With only the City of Boyne City yet to report current 90th District Court Judge Angela Lasher appears to have defeated challenger Robert Bannder of Boyne City.

As election day nears, I encourage you to watch these community conversations, in which I participated, to understand the clear difference between your candidates.

The League of Women Voters Charlevoix/Emmet Unit forum posed meaningful questions (you can watch each separately). As your current, highly qualified, 90th District Court Judge, I provided genuine, unscripted answers because I have the RIGHT EXPERIENCE behind the bench.

RIGHT EXPERIENCE. RIGHT LEADERSHIP. RIGHT CHOICE.

This election is about the RIGHT EXPERIENCE.

As the only candidate who has presided over the district court, I have heard hundreds of cases, criminal and civil, and have made countless decisions each and every day. I have been on the bench each day in Charlevoix and Emmet counties, often hearing over 30 cases per day.

Experience matters and there is ONLY ONE CANDIDATE with the RIGHT EXPERIENCE.

90th District Court Judge for Charlevoix County and Emmet County with thousands of hours spent in District Court as an attorney and judge.

I am so proud of the individuals who have endorsed my campaign. These are people who know me personally and professionally. You may know them as well because each is someone who has lived, worked, or volunteered in our community.

My endorsements are personal and meaningful and I encourage you to take a look.

RIGHT EXPERIENCE. RIGHT LEADERSHIP. RIGHT CHOICE.

”As a 48-year member of the Michigan Bar, I am very aware of the need for experienced trial attorneys on the bench. Judge Lasher’s years in the Emmet County’s Prosecutor’s Office evidences that experience. The vetting process she went through prior to her appointment to the 90th District Court reflects the high esteem in which she is held which was earned through her years of experience. I am delighted to endorse Judge Angela Lasher.“

Thank you, Jim. I am honored by the strong bi-partisan support and local endorsements our community members have shared to retain my position. It is a privilege to serve as your 90th District Court Judge.

The election is only one week away! I have made this campaign about my leadership and experience, but it is also important that everyone understands politics has no place inside the courtroom, or the path leading to it.

I am grateful for the support I have received from both parties in my quest to retain my position as your 90th District Court judge. This is so important to me because judges are required to be independent and non-partisan. We must leave our ideologies at the courtroom door. I do this every day and I did it as a prosecutor.

Judges and judicial candidates are held to high ethical standards. This should be a bright line, it is not appropriate for a judge to cross that line or inch dangerously close to doing so.

For me, a bright line means-
• I have attended gatherings for both political parties.
• I have placed my campaign signs at the headquarters of both political parties.
• I welcome the support of all, regardless of political ideology.

But it also means-
• I will not go all-in with one political party or the other.
• I will not attend political events at a party headquarters such as a ribbon-cutting.
• I will not attend and advertise a joint fundraiser between myself and other candidates for one party over the other.

We must hold judges to high standards of integrity. Anything less demeans the court system and those that enter the courtroom.

District Court is the people's court and is open to all. I have and will continue to honor that.
