Our sincere condolences to our Chief on the passing of his K9 partner, Lucy. Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.

The member’s of the Petersham Police Department extend our deepest condolences to Ret. Corporal Bob Legare as his partner K-9 Lucy was laid to rest earlier today.

K-9 Lucy served with Cpl. Legare for many years responding to missions and public education events across Massachusetts, the pair worked as members of the Northeast Houndsmen.

On a moments notice K-9 Lucy was ready to respond in a wide variety of call-outs, including but not limited to missing person searches & fugitive tracks just to name a few.

K-9 Lucy, we thank you for your service.

Special Town Election – Monday, August 24th 🚒

A reminder to the residents of Petersham: on Monday, August 24th there is a Special Town Election, and voters will be asked to vote on the replacement of Tanker 2 for Petersham Fire.

Tanker 2 is an important piece of equipment for our firefighters and our community. Please make your voice heard and take part in this important town decision.

Today was busy day for Petersham Fire!

Several of our members spent the day completing the second and final day of a two-day Active Shooter Response class, continuing to build valuable skills and knowledge for responding to critical incidents.

Just before the class wrapped up, at approximately 12:55 PM, our members were dispatched for a motorcycle versus car MVA.

The crash resulted in two patients being transported, with one patient transported by LifeFlight.

Today, At 1640 hours, the Petersham Fire Department responded to a single-car MVA. All four occupants in the vehicle were transported to UMASS, with three transported via helicopter.

This incident highlights the outstanding teamwork and coordination between multiple fire departments and agencies. We are grateful for the professionalism, dedication, and seamless collaboration demonstrated by everyone on scene. Working together, our crews were able to provide rapid patient care, ensure scene safety, and manage a complex emergency.

Training pays off! 🚒🚁

After a coordinated LifeFlight training with Barre Fire Department and Oakham Fire Department last night, Petersham Fire was able to put those skills into action today while still fresh on the mind.

Utilizing the criteria “for when to deploy” LifeFlight and how to establish an impromptu landing zone from the training, we were able to quickly get our patient emergency care.

Our thanks to Petersham Police Department, Athol Fire Department and UMass Memorial LifeFlight for the great teamwork and patient care!

This evening, members of the Barre Fire Department, Petersham Fire Department, and Oakham Fire Department participated in a valuable UMass LifeFlight training.

The training included both a classroom session providing criteria on when & how to activate LifeFlight and a live helicopter landing at Quabbin Regional High School, providing firefighters with hands-on experience in safely coordinating landing zone operations and working alongside the flight crew during emergency responses.
