The 130th Airlift Squadron, West Virginia National Guard, teamed up with the 180th Engineer Support Company, Virginia National Guard, to bring a Caterpillar D6K dozer to an outstation, supporting critical force protection and construction missions in the Horn of Africa.

The rare airlift mission served to display AFRICOM and CJTF-HOA's ability deploy service members, systems and equipment across the African continent, anywhere, anytime.

Our hearts are with their families, loved ones and our comrades in the Iowa National Guard during this time of profound sorrow. We will never forget them or their service.

We are also thinking of and praying for the families of the civilian interpreter who was killed, and the three other Guardsmen who were wounded. May God place his healing hand upon them.

Officially, today is the National Guard’s birthday, recognizing the first militia regiments formed in 1636 in Massachusetts. But if you know Virginia history, you know we’ve been doing this a bit longer.

Our heritage reaches back to the Jamestown militia of 1607, when early settlers organized to protect the colony.

So, while we join the celebration today, we also take pride in knowing we’ve been part of America’s story since one of its earliest chapters.

“The holiday season isn't always bright. For many, it’s a time that sharpens the pain of loss, magnifies loneliness, or brings difficult memories to the surface. It's a time when we need each other most. Check in on your people. A simple call or text can be a lifeline.

If you're the one in a dark place, please know this: you are not alone, you are not a burden, and we want you here.

There is strength in reaching out.

When you don't know what else to do, just pick up! Pick up the phone and call a friend. Pick up and answer when they call you. If you need to talk to someone immediately, dial 988 and press 1.

Whatever you do, just pick up.”

Hell yeah! Congratulations to our new NCOs!

Director of the Army National Guard U.S. Army United States Army Military Police Corps

Please join us in recognizing our newest Noncommissioned Officers, formally inducted into the NCO Corps:

SGT Beamon
SGT Price, D.
SGT Ely
SGT Han
SGT Harmon
SGT Ng
SGT Jones, R.

The NCO Induction Ceremony is more than a milestone—it is the formal recognition of the honor and responsibility bestowed upon those who step forward to lead America’s sons and daughters. Since 1775, Noncommissioned Officers have been known as the Backbone of the Army, entrusted with enforcing standards, developing Soldiers, and translating the commander’s intent into disciplined action.

Today, these Sergeants accepted the mantle of leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to the NCO Creed, to uphold the Army Values, and to place the welfare of their Soldiers above their own. We are proud to welcome them into the long, distinguished line of NCOs who have led from the front in peace and in war.
