At approximately 5:45 a.m., units from Petersburg Fire, Rescue & Emergency Services were dispatched to the 1100 block of West Normandale Avenue for a reported structure fire.

Engine 4 arrived first on scene to find a two-story single-family residence with moderate smoke showing from Division 2. Engine 4 immediately established a water supply by laying in from the hydrant at the corner of Meadowbrook Avenue and West Normandale Avenue before advancing an attack line to the second floor to make an aggressive push on the fire.

Engine 2 arrived moments later, secured the hydrant connection, and supplied Engine 4 with a continuous water source. Truck 1 crews conducted a primary search of the residence and confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated prior to firefighters' arrival.

Thanks to the quick actions of Engine 4, crews achieved a rapid knockdown of the fire and successfully contained it to the area of origin, with only minor extension into the upstairs hallway. Firefighters remained on scene conducting overhaul operations and checking for hidden fire extension.

One fire fighter reported with a minor injury , no other reported injuries . However, four residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.

The Petersburg Fire Marshal's Office has been requested to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Units remain on scene at this time. Motorists and residents are asked to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel room to work safely.

Another strong example of teamwork, training, and professionalism by Petersburg firefighters protecting lives and property ….

‼️🧰🔧 Not every upgrade in the fire service comes with lights and sirens.🔧⚙️🔩🚒

Sometimes the biggest moves happen behind the bay doors with a wrench in your hand keeping the fleet ready for the next call.
The Petersburg Fire Department is proud to Welcome Randy Foster as our new Fire Apparatus Mechanic …a major addition to this department and a huge step forward for our city.

This position and opportunity were made possible through the continued support and leadership of City Manager March Altman, whose commitment to strengthening public safety and investing in the future of this department continues to move Petersburg forward. Bringing this capability in-house is an important investment not only in our fleet, but in the firefighters and citizens who depend on these apparatus every single day.

Randy brings years of real experience working on fire trucks, ambulances, heavy equipment, pumps, aerials, and emergency vehicle systems. From preventative maintenance to major repairs and diagnostics, he’s spent years making sure emergency vehicles stay ready when people need them most.

What makes this different is we now have that knowledge and capability in-house.
That means better fleet reliability, quicker repairs, stronger preventative maintenance, and more apparatus staying in service protecting the citizens of Petersburg every day.
Randy’s background includes:🚒 Firefighter I & II🚒 HazMat Operations🚒 Emergency Vehicle Operator🚒 Driver/Operator – Aerial🚒 Pierce Master Technician Certification
Along with advanced training in pump systems, aerial maintenance, ambulance electrical systems, transmissions, diagnostics, and fleet operations.
This is one of those behind-the-scenes moves that will make a big impact across the entire department.

We appreciate the continued support from city leadership as this department continues pushing forward, growing stronger, and investing in the people and equipment that keep this city protected.
Welcome to the family, Randy. Glad to have you in the Burg. 🔧🚒

🔥🔥 (Engine 3s First Due) All units were dispatched to the 100 block of Pleasants Lane for the report of a structure fire. Engine 3 arrived on scene to find a small building on the property of Pleasants Lane Elementary School with heavy fire showing from the structure.

Engine 3 immediately deployed an attack line and went to work, placing water on the fire quickly while Truck 1 and additional crews arrived to assist with fire ground operations and exposure checks. Due to the fast actions of responding personnel, crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly and prevent extension beyond the original building. Within 10 mins from dispatch crews arrived advanced a hose line, knocked the fire down and extinguished with no extension.

What could have become much larger was stopped by preparation, teamwork, and crews moving with purpose from the moment tones dropped. Fire Marshall 3 requested for investigation.

The Petersburg Fire Department is advising the public to avoid the area of Union Street and W. Washington Street due to a water main break that has shut down access to several roadways in the area. Crews are currently operating on scene working to repair the issue and restore normal traffic flow safely.

Motorists traveling downtown are encouraged to use Market Street and Adams Street as alternate routes around the affected area. One lane of Washington Street is expected to reopen shortly once all necessary equipment is in place.

Please use caution, expect delays, and avoid the area if possible while emergency and utility crews continue operations on scene.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as crews work to resolve the situation safely.

It’s a good feeling seeing the fresh paint on the walls, the new floors throughout the house, and the bay floors brought back to life. The building may look different, cleaner, and renewed ‼️but the heart of this firehouse never changed. Beneath every coat of paint and every polished floor is years of history, tradition, sacrifice, and brotherhood that can never be covered up. The walls still carry the stories of the ones who walked these halls before us, answered the calls, and built the foundation we stand on today. Sometimes renovating a firehouse isn’t about changing it ….it’s about preserving the pride that’s always lived inside it.
