🔥 Truck 1, Engine 2, and Battalion 1 have been dispatched to the City of Colonial Heights to assist with a reported structure fire in the area of Sherwood Drive and Arch Street.

Petersburg units are currently responding to provide mutual aid support alongside our neighboring agencies.

Members of Petersburg Fire Support 6 are currently on scene assisting with Rehab.

Today firefighters from Petersburg, Prince George, Dinwiddie, and Colonial Heights came together at Circle Auto to put hands on the tools, cut up cars, solve problems, and sharpen the skills that save lives.

The fire service has always been built on firefighters teaching firefighters. No egos. No competition. Just experienced men and women passing along knowledge and learning from one another.

Because when that call comes in for a pinned occupant, nobody gets a second chance to get it right.

What we do on the training ground directly impacts what happens on the street.

Days like today build more than skills. They build relationships. They build trust. They build the confidence that when multiple departments show up to the same scene, we’re all speaking the same language and working toward the same goal.

A strong region isn’t built during a rescue. It’s built long before the call ever comes in.

Thank you to everyone who made this training possible, and a special thank you to Support 6 Petersburg for taking care of the crews throughout the day.

🚨 SMOKE DETECTOR BLITZ 🚨
🚨THIS SATURDAY 🚨🚒⛑️

This Saturday, firefighters from the Petersburg Bureau of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Services, alongside our partners from the American Red Cross, will be going door-to-door in the West Washington Street and Low Street areas installing free smoke alarms and helping keep our community safe.

Over the past several months, we’ve been making our way across the entire city ‼️one Area at a time ensuring residents have working smoke alarms and a better chance of escaping safely should a fire occur.

A working smoke alarm provides the early warning needed when seconds matter most. That’s why we’re committed to bringing this program directly to our residents.

If you need smoke alarms installed, follow the instructions on the flyer. If you know a family member, friend, neighbor, or loved one who could benefit from this service, please share this information with them.

Together, we’re making Petersburg safer‼️one home, one family, and one neighborhood at a time. 🔥🚒

What does respect look like?

It looks like honoring the men and women who wore this patch before us. The ones who answered the calls, served this community, and helped build the Petersburg Fire Department into what it is today.

We, welcomed our retirees back home. We shared stories, memories, and brotherhood while remembering those we’ve lost since our last gathering and throughout the years.

Their service will never be forgotten. Their legacy still rides with us every day.

🔥 Vehicle Fire Under Investigation..

12:45 am Engine 3 was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire down Squaw Alley off Grove Ave and arrived to find an abandoned vehicle fully involved in flames.

Engine 3 Crew quickly brought the fire under control while Engine 2 assisted with water operations. Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, the Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene and an investigation is underway.

PD remains on scene assisting with the investigation.

No injuries were reported.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., units from Petersburg Fire, Rescue & Emergency Services were dispatched to the 1100 block of West Normandale Avenue for a reported structure fire.

Engine 4 arrived first on scene to find a two-story single-family residence with moderate smoke showing from Division 2. Engine 4 immediately established a water supply by laying in from the hydrant at the corner of Meadowbrook Avenue and West Normandale Avenue before advancing an attack line to the second floor to make an aggressive push on the fire.

Engine 2 arrived moments later, secured the hydrant connection, and supplied Engine 4 with a continuous water source. Truck 1 crews conducted a primary search of the residence and confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated prior to firefighters' arrival.

Thanks to the quick actions of Engine 4, crews achieved a rapid knockdown of the fire and successfully contained it to the area of origin, with only minor extension into the upstairs hallway. Firefighters remained on scene conducting overhaul operations and checking for hidden fire extension.

One fire fighter reported with a minor injury , no other reported injuries . However, four residents have been displaced as a result of the fire.

The Petersburg Fire Marshal's Office has been requested to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Units remain on scene at this time. Motorists and residents are asked to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel room to work safely.

Sometimes the biggest moves happen behind the bay doors with a wrench in your hand keeping the fleet ready for the next call.
The Petersburg Fire Department is proud to Welcome Randy Foster as our new Fire Apparatus Mechanic …a major addition to this department and a huge step forward for our city.

This position and opportunity were made possible through the continued support and leadership of City Manager March Altman, whose commitment to strengthening public safety and investing in the future of this department continues to move Petersburg forward. Bringing this capability in-house is an important investment not only in our fleet, but in the firefighters and citizens who depend on these apparatus every single day.

Randy brings years of real experience working on fire trucks, ambulances, heavy equipment, pumps, aerials, and emergency vehicle systems. From preventative maintenance to major repairs and diagnostics, he’s spent years making sure emergency vehicles stay ready when people need them most.

What makes this different is we now have that knowledge and capability in-house.
That means better fleet reliability, quicker repairs, stronger preventative maintenance, and more apparatus staying in service protecting the citizens of Petersburg every day.
