September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and we’re continuing to celebrate the incredible work of our Mental Health Services team. This week, we’re delighted to introduce Kasey, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist applicant at PPSC.

Kasey brings a warm, collaborative approach to therapy, creating a welcoming space where clients can feel supported as partners in their healing. Her work centers the whole person—honoring each client’s strengths while recognizing the role of culture, community, and systemic factors in mental health.

With a deeply rooted desire to help others and a belief that healing is possible with the right support, Kasey works with children, adults, families, and couples. She is dedicated to inclusive, culturally sensitive care that welcomes all identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Thank you, Kasey, for sharing your heart for this work and for being part of our Mental Health Services team!

As we celebrate the important work of our Mental Health Services team this September, we are delighted to introduce Lauren, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at PPSC.

Lauren works with adults, children, teens, and relationships of all kinds, offering services in both English and Spanish. At the heart of Lauren’s approach is the belief that people thrive when they feel safe and connected—to themselves and to others.

She describes her therapeutic style as warm, empathetic, relational, and collaborative. She takes an affirming and non-pathologizing approach, asking “What happened to you?” rather than “What’s wrong with you?”

As a bilingual Spanish-speaking therapist, she is committed to culturally affirming care and to continually examining the systems and assumptions that influence how we understand ourselves and one another.

Thank you, Lauren, for sharing your insight and for being a part of our Mental Health Services team.

A rainy morning turned into a bright celebration of connection, community, and care for older adults in Sonoma County.

PPSC was proud to be part of 'Connection is Prevention' conference for the second year in a row—an inspiring event focused on strengthening connection and support for older adults in our community.

The day brought together inspiring speakers, breakout sessions, resource vendors, and hands-on activities—all aimed at connecting older adults, caregivers, and professionals with tools and support for mental well-being.

Thank you to the , Sonoma County Department of Health Services Behavioral Health Division, Finley Community Center, and the Life Worth Living Su***de Prevention Alliance for hosting such a meaningful celebration.

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and we’re taking a moment to recognize the important work of our Mental Health Services team at PPSC. Every day, our therapists provide care, support, and resources for individuals and families while helping build a safer, more compassionate community.

We also spoke with Kevin, one of our therapists-in-training, about what inspires his work and asked him to share a quick mental health tip for our community. Kevin is currently pursuing his master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Palo Alto University and also holds an M.Sc. in Psychology.

When asked what inspired him to pursue a career in mental health, Kevin shared that he has been long interested in people, relationships, and the ways we connect with one another. After starting in research and teaching, he realized he was most drawn to work that allowed him to connect with people directly and offer support in the moment.

Kevin’s mental health reminder for our community: take your breaks. Rest does not always need to be productive. It does not have to help you focus better, prepare you to do more, or accomplish anything at all. Sometimes, rest can simply be rest. Give yourself permission to take the break, do something you enjoy, or do nothing at all.

Thank you, Kevin, for sharing your insight and for being a part of our Mental Health Services team.

PPSC’s Summer Smoothies & Snacks series has come to a close! Over the course of 10 sessions, our youth mixed, chopped, blended, and tasted their way through apple sandwiches, veggie dips, blueberry smoothies, guacamole, fruit kebabs, pineapple smoothies, oatmeal bites, carrot-orange smoothies, mini pizzas, papaya smoothies, and more.

One of our favorite parts was seeing youth try new foods for the first time, including coconut, papaya, prickly pear, and jicama! Thank you to Blue Zones Project Petaluma for helping us create a space for curiosity, learning, and healthy snacks this summer.

Fair Housing services for Petaluma residents are now being provided by COTS (Committee on the Shelterless), a trusted organization specializing in housing support across Sonoma County.

For many years, Petaluma People Services Center has been proud to support our community through Fair Housing services, promoting equal access to housing opportunities and helping prevent discrimination in housing practices. We are grateful for the support and trust we have received throughout the years.

COTS offers Fair Housing assistance to low and moderate-income residents within the City limits of Petaluma. The COTS Fair Housing program can provide tenants with assistance related to reasonable accommodations and advocacy, as well as answering general fair housing questions.

COTS also provides fair housing training for tenants, landlords, and other local organizations providing housing support to Petaluma residents. COTS does not provide legal advice or assistance related to fair housing practices.

To contact the COTS Fair Housing team, please email [email protected] or call (707) 522-7780.
