Friends of San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge Fish and Wildlife Service to meet its mandates.

The Friends of the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge is an independent, non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to promoting the conservation of the natural resources of the refuge, fostering public understanding and appreciation of the refuge, and engaging in activities that will assist the U.S. We support the San Pablo Bay and Marin Islands National Wildlife Refuges in their mission t

o restore, enhance, protect and preserve the wildlife and its environment while providing educational opportunities, increasing public awareness, involvement, appreciation and enjoyment of the refuges.

Happy Earth Day from the Refuge. The Friends spent the morning introducing middle school kids to the wonder of the wildlife refuge: birding, mud glorious mud and invertebrates, wetland vegetation and nature journaling. Great fun despite the rain.

Some of the Friends of SPB NWR spent the morning birding out at the Refuge at the Dickson Unit last Saturday with expert birders, Mason Hill and Roopak Bhatt. The tide was out and the mudflats were exposed so we saw many different shorebirds; including many avocets' whose breeding color is coming in. We also saw a pair of white-tailed Kites and male and female northern harriers.
