Fire Prevention Week 2018

October 7-13 is Fire Prevention Week in 2018. The theme for 2018 is: “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware-fire can happen anywhere.”

Through three simple items, "Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware - fire can happen anywhere," the theme identifies basic but important ways people can reduce their risk to fire and be prepared in the event of one:
• Look for places fire can start
• Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm
• Learn two ways out of each room

Fire prevention week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire which killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, and destroyed more than 17,400 structures.

For more information on fire prevention week, visit NFPA at

Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week (FPW) has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The theme of the 2018 campaign is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere."
