There is a Driftwood Fort a few Native Americans built up from an existing very moderate structure that was found on the beach in April of 2012, everyday for 12 days we added to it, repaired the mishaps from destructive forces, observed what new things were added and taken away by others, we shared stories, cultures, travels, food, time, our love and devotion to the protection of water and the sac

redness of the natural world at this very special beach...it was a great sharing experience by many, some we met in person, some we just saw what they had added when we were not around. If you visit the fort and this beach please post pictures and stories so we can see from afar what happens there until our return. The Driftwood Fort is along the creek's beach side at Gazos Creek State Beach, is in San Mateo County California, just south of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse. It is a beautiful beach with a creek emptying into the ocean. The entrance is on the west side of the highway, across the road from the only gas station on Route 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. There are portopots in the parking lot and a easy to moderate trail down to the beach. There are no fires, no camping, no dogs allowed sign as well as a swimming warning because of the frequent rip-currents, cold water and heavy surf. There is great beachcombing going south or north, if you look north you can see the Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
