Bishop-Designate Michael A. Saporito, center, was introduced to his diocesan family at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center yesterday, September 15, 2026.

He was introduced by Father Jonathan Toborowsky, our diocesan administrator, and Anthony Kearns, our diocesan chancellor.

It was a joyful morning at the diocesan center.

Bishop Saporito said of his appointment: “I am deeply grateful and humbled that Pope Leo XIV has called me to serve as the Bishop of Metuchen. While it is not easy to leave the people and places that have formed and sustained me, I welcome this new mission with trust in the Holy Spirit. I look forward to meeting the priests, deacons, religious and lay faithful of the Diocese, walking with them as we seek to follow Jesus Christ and bear witness to the hope of the Gospel."

The Diocese of Metuchen will live stream the introductory news conference today at 11 a.m. on our page.

This morning it was announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Michael A. Saporito, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, as Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen.

Today, on this 25th anniversary of September 11, the Diocese of Metuchen pauses in prayer to honor and remember all the innocent lives lost, the brave first responders who sacrificed everything, and the families whose lives were changed forever.

As a community of faith, we turn to Christ for hope and healing, praying for continued peace in our hearts, our local communities, and our world.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, comfort those who still grieve, grant peace to those we lost, and guide us to be instruments of Your love and unity today and always. Amen.

❤️🥕 September is Hunger Action Month! 🥕❤️

Today, Unity Square Community Center is proud to join REPLENISH of Middlesex County as we come together to raise awareness, take action, and work toward a more food-secure Middlesex County.

Newly released 2024 data from Feeding America shows that more than 106,000 of our neighbors in Middlesex County are experiencing food insecurity, including more than 28,000 children. These numbers remind us that hunger is a challenge affecting families, children, seniors, and individuals right here in our own communities.

At Unity Square, we believe that everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food. As cuts to federal assistance programs continue to impact our neighbors, community partnerships and collective action are more important than ever. 🤝❤️

This Hunger Action Month, we invite you to educate, volunteer, advocate, and collaborate with us and organizations across Middlesex County. Together, we can make a difference and help ensure that no neighbor has to go without the food they need. 💚🥕🍎
