On 10/25/26 at 0045 hours, the PAFD was dispatched to 671 Catherine Street for a reported fire. Arriving units found heavy fire conditions in the rear of the 4 family apartment building, which extended into the right side delta exposure building. Four hoselines operated to confine and extinguish the fire as crews completed searches and ventilation. All searches were negative with all occupants accounted for. There were 7 civilian injuries that were treated by EMS. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the PAFD Fire Investigation Unit and County Fire Marshals Office. City units on scene were E-1, E-2, E-5, E-6, T-2, R-1, C-1, C-2, C-4 & C-5. Mutual aid on scene was Hopelawn Rescue 8, Woodbridge Truck 1-2-1, Fords Engine 7-3 & Iselin Air Truck 9-3-4. PAFD E-3, South Amboy Truck 8 and Edison Engine 1 covered the City during the incident.

Last weekend, Rescue 1 and members of Special Ops attended a 2-day school bus extrication and mass casualty incident training in Woodbridge with many departments and agencies that worked seamlessly together. Thank you to Woodbridge Fire District 1 and Woodbridge OEM for coordinating an extremely well organized weekend and thank you to all the instructors involved. The crew of Engine 1 with Car 6 and our firefighter Minion attended the Flynn School’s Trunk or Treat event last night which was packed! We cannot confirm or deny that the kids dressed as firefighters got a little extra candy. Thank you to our two fire unions for purchasing all the candy for the events we will be at. Please be safe while trick or treating to next week!

Today, I joined Congressman Frank Pallone, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, and local heart-safety advocates to unveil a new AED and temperature-controlled SaveStation at the Veterans Memorial Youth Complex.

David and JoAnne Babbitt donated the equipment through the John Taylor Babbitt Foundation in memory of their son, John Taylor, with support from Mike and Jill Katz of the Sarah Katz Foundation and local advocates.

When cardiac arrest happens, every second matters. I hope this AED is never needed, but I am grateful it will be here to help protect our young athletes, families, and community.

Thank you to Congressman Pallone for his leadership on the HEARTS Act, to everyone who supported this donation, and to our Department of Public Works for installing the AED SaveStation and making sure it was ready for our community.

Hoy acompañé al congresista Frank Pallone, a la asambleísta Yvonne Lopez y a defensores de la seguridad cardíaca para presentar un nuevo desfibrilador externo automático (AED) y una estación SaveStation con control de temperatura en el Veterans Memorial Youth Complex.

El equipo fue donado por David y JoAnne Babbitt a través de la Fundación John Taylor Babbitt, en memoria de su hijo, John Taylor, con el apoyo de Mike y Jill Katz, de la Fundación Sarah Katz, y otros defensores locales.
