The National Interagency Fire Center expects above average wildland fire activity in Arkansas this month!

I bet we see it continue into October, especially as we stop having humid days. The humid air is helping a lot right now.

Here is their discussion:

"Confidence is higher in drought continuing to worsen... Some areas received beneficial rainfall in late August, but the return of dry and unusually hot weather will likely mean any relief is temporary.

An expansive area of above-normal significant fire potential is expected across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and southwestern Alabama for the month ahead.

These conditions may very well continue into October and November in portions of the region..."

1:30 TAMKO Radar update!

Small but numerous showers and a few storms have popped up in the north half of Arkansas!

Are you seeing any?

Even if you don't these may knock the temperature down. It;s getting close to 100 out there!

Rain chances are UP to 10-20% this afternoon!

Expect the highest concentration of storms to be from northwest to central Arkansas.

A couple of storms are expected to severe with high winds gusts, so if storm goes up close to you be aware of that risk.

Otherwise just hope for a storm nearby that can drop your temperature by 10-15 degrees!

SUNDAY STORMS - could it be!?

I do think we will have an opportunity for some thunderstorm development on Sunday afternoon.

I know the graphic below looks like a bucket of spilled paint, but let me explain.

Green shaded region - low risk for severe weather (damaging winds is a concern)

Green/yellow and red - simulated radar for Sunday afternoon, basically the model guessing on where storms could develop.

Today is a low probability forecast for most of you, not a 100% forecast day.

Some of us will certainly encounter thunderstorms before the day is over though.

We will take whatever we can get at this point. I just wish it didn’t come with a chance for severe weather.

Good Saturday morning, Arkansas!

This is a little bit of a two-part post this morning.

First of all, IT’S GAME DAY! 🐗🏈

The Hogs are back, and I am excited and looking forward to a great day!

If you are heading to the game today, be prepared for the heat. It is going to be HOT.

Drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, and find ways to stay cool when you can.

And of course, be loud and proud supporting those Razorbacks!

Now, I also want to encourage somebody this morning.

I added a quote to today’s graphic as a reminder that no matter what you may be facing right now, a new day brings another opportunity to keep going.

Some days are harder than others, but don’t let one difficult chapter convince you that the story is over.

Now, let’s talk weather.

A few isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop later this afternoon.

The models continue to show quite a bit of inconsistency, but we are seeing some signs that a little rain could pop up on radar.

I do NOT expect this to be widespread.

There is absolutely no reason to cancel your plans. Any activity that develops should be fairly isolated and short-lived.

We will be watching radar closely and keeping you updated.
