As Memorial Day approaches, Perry County Administration pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Their courage, selflessness, and devotion to freedom have protected the liberties we enjoy every day. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a solemn reminder that freedom is never free.

We encourage all Perry County residents to take a moment this weekend to reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes and the families they left behind. Whether attending a ceremony, visiting a memorial, flying the American flag, or simply sharing stories of loved ones who served, may we never forget those who gave everything for our country.

From all of us at Perry County Administration, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we honor the true spirit of this important national holiday.

🇺🇸 Perry County Administrative Offices Closed 🇺🇸

Perry County Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, May 8, 2026, in observance of Harry S. Truman Day. Offices will reopen during normal business hours on Monday, May 11.

Why do we celebrate Harry Truman Day in Missouri?
Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States and remains the only U.S. President born in Missouri — proudly hailing from Lamar and later calling Independence home. Truman led the nation through the closing days of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War, making some of the most significant decisions in American history.

🇺🇸 Fun Facts About President Truman:
⭐ He was known for the phrase “The Buck Stops Here,” which sat on his desk in the Oval Office.
⭐ Truman did not have a college degree, yet rose from farmer and businessman to President of the United States.
⭐ He played the piano and once considered becoming a professional musician.
⭐ He served in World War I as an artillery captain before entering public service.
⭐ Missouri celebrates Harry Truman Day each year on May 8 — Truman’s birthday!

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and wonderful weekend as we honor one of Missouri’s most historic public servants.
