The Perry Police Department provides the City of Perry with emergency and non-emergency service 24 hours a day to more than 14,000 city residents and an estimated 2,000 visitors every day. During the Georgia National Fair in October each year, the visitor count increases to approximately 35,000 per day. Our jurisdiction covers approximately 26 s

quare miles and includes houses and apartment complexes, businesses and industrial parks, recreational facilities, schools, churches, an airport, and shopping centers. We are a multi-faceted professional public safety organization serving a fast-paced, multi-cultural and rapidly growing community. In 2013, officers responded to over 31,000 calls for service and over 600 motor vehicle crashes. The Perry Police Department employs 35 sworn officers and 8 support persons. All Perry Police Department officers are certified by the Georgia Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Council. The department is state certified by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. The headquarters of the Perry Police Department is located at 1207 Washington Street, Perry, Georgia 31069. The Perry Police Department is headed by Chief Stephen D. Lynn who is currently assisted by two police captains and one police lieutenant who serve as division commanders. The division commanders oversee the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigations Division and the Community Services and Training Division within the police department. The department has developed and implemented a number of crime prevention programs. We utilize a community oriented policing approach as a positive step in the development of both a working relationship and a communications network between our department and the community. The sworn and civilian members of the Perry Police Department are extremely proud of their agency and all the services that are provided to the citizens and visitors of this city. Whether members are assigned to areas such as patrol, canine teams, crime scene, criminal investigations, school resource program, gang task force or any other components of the department, pride is the common denominator found with our employees. The Perry Police Department is committed to providing professional law enforcement and public safety services and we strive daily to provide those services to all citizens of and visitors to our city through the prudent allocation of resources the community has entrusted to us.

This Memorial Day, the Perry Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We are forever grateful for their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. May we never forget those who gave all.

In honor of Memorial Day, all non-essential City of Perry offices will be closed on May 25, 2026.

Regular operating hours will resume on May 26, 2026.

Traffic Notice | With local graduation ceremonies taking place this week, residents and visitors should expect traffic delays near General Courtney Hodges Boulevard due to active bridge construction and lane closures in the area.

As part of the construction:
• WF Ragin Drive at General Courtney Hodges Boulevard is closed
• Main Street at General Courtney Hodges Boulevard is closed
• Traffic impacts are also affecting Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

Drivers attending graduation events are encouraged to use I-75 Exit 134 and Exit 135 when possible to help avoid congestion.

Traffic control personnel will be assisting with traffic flow at:
• General Courtney Hodges Boulevard and Larry Walker Parkway
• The I-75 Exit 135 off-ramp

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, follow posted signage, and use caution while traveling through the area.

The Perry Police Department will host two Firearm Safety Classes in April, offering practical guidance in a safe and educational environment.

Women’s Firearm Safety Class
April 28, 2026 | 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Senior Citizens’ Firearm Safety Class
April 30, 2026 | 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

NOTE: Range instruction for both classes will take place on May 2, 2026.

Each session will cover firearm safety fundamentals, situational awareness, and responsible ownership. Whether you are new to fi****ms or would like a refresher, this is an opportunity to learn directly from Perry Police officers.

Participants must complete a Firearm Class Application, Waiver, Release and Indemnification Agreement, and Criminal History Consent Form.
