MTRCOG staff had a great time attending the MINK 4-State Conference last week! It was a great opportunity to connect with regional partners, share ideas, and learn about the work happening across Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.

We’re always glad for opportunities to learn, collaborate, and bring new ideas back to the Mark Twain Region!

Today we joined the ribbon cutting for the U.S. Route 36/63 interchange improvements. This project is a great example of the TAC process working — identifying a regional need, prioritizing it, and working together to make it happen.

MTRCOG is pleased to have been part of the road that helped get this project from an identified need to a completed improvement. Congratulations to everyone who helped make it happen! 🎉

We’re so grateful to all of the city and county clerks who joined us for a day of learning, networking, sharing ideas, and a little fun along the way. We truly appreciate the work you do every day to serve our communities!

🎉 St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Receives Grant Funding for Recycled Playground Improvements! ♻️

In 2025, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church was awarded $39,690 in special grant funding through the Mark Twain Solid Waste Management District to make exciting improvements to its K–8 school playground!

Grant funds were used to purchase recycled pour-in-place rubber safety surfacing, recycled border timbers, and a recycled GAGA ball pit—giving new life to recycled materials while creating a safer and more enjoyable place for students to play.

“We were thrilled to help St. John’s make improvements that encourage the reuse of materials while keeping the playground a safe and fun area for children,” said Ashley Long, District Planner for the Mark Twain Solid Waste Management District. “The safety surface, border timbers, and ball pit will also serve as a great educational tool for the children and the community.”

The Mark Twain Solid Waste Management District Region G is funded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and governed by county commissioners from seven counties, including Marion County Commissioner Lacey Miller. Administration for the District is provided by the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments in Perry, Missouri.

This project was made possible through funding from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Mark Twain Solid Waste Management District, and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Congratulations to St. John’s on these exciting new playground improvements! 🛝♻️

We were pleased to attend the High Priority Unfunded Needs (HPUN) Public Hearing and be part of the process that helps shape transportation priorities for Northeast Missouri.

As a planning partner with MoDOT, MTRCOG is proud to participate in this process and help advocate for the transportation needs of our region. The HPUN process is an important opportunity to identify projects that are not currently funded but are critical to the future of our communities.

And the process is working! Since 2019, in MoDOT’s Northeast District, 58 road and bridge projects and 5 multimodal projects—totaling approximately $170 million—have moved off the HPUN List and into the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). That’s real progress for our region and proof that identifying and prioritizing our unfunded needs can lead to projects becoming reality.

📋 Didn’t attend the public hearing? You can review the draft HPUN List and provide comments through September 10:

We’re proud to be a planning partner with MoDOT and to have a seat at the table advocating for Northeast Missouri’s transportation priorities! 🚧🛣️
