Civil Air Patrol missions include Search and Rescue (SAR) usually but not limited to incidents involving downed aircraft, Disaster Relief, Counter Drug photography and surveillance, emergency transport of medical supplies, ground and air radiological monitoring, and training missions to keep ourselves at all times fully "mission ready". pace education, leadership training, and a regimen of physical fitness, military discipline, and moral guidance.

It is with great sadness to announce that Maj Marylou Falco has been called home at 0630 this morning. Maj Falco has been the backbone of the NY Wing encampment for a long time. She is notoriously known as the registrar for the NYW Encampment — a position that she has held for 22 years, including this year. She will be greatly missed by all. We will take it from here Ma'am.

LAUNCH UPDATE 5/8 🚨 We're a GO for tonight's launch attempt! 🚀 The launch window will open at 8:02 p.m. EDT and stay open for 40 minutes. Ground and upper level winds are a concern, so the team will monitor them throughout the count.

Tonight's launch is a sounding rocket, which is smaller and faster than the Antares rocket, and can be easy to miss. These types of science missions require specific conditions and sometimes can take days before launching. We'll provide any updates closer to the window opening.

Will you see the upcoming rocket launch? 🚀 👀

The Black Brant XII, carrying the KiNET-X payload, is a four-stage sounding rocket that can reach altitudes more than 200 miles above Earth's surface. Because of this, weather permitting, the eastern U.S. states have a chance to see the rocket passing over when the window opens May 7.

The KiNET-X launch is currently scheduled for May 7. The window opens at 7:58 p.m. EDT. Backup days run through May 16. We're keeping a close eye on the weather, so check back for updates: https://go.nasa.gov/3eTTCH
