Peralta Fire Department Firefighters conducted training on hydrant and deck gun operations tonight.

Peralta has very few hydrants, but our mutual aid partners from Bosque Farms and Los Lunas have hydrants in their districts so our firefighters need to stay trained and ready to operate with hydrants.

Our firefighters also trained on deck gun operations. The deck gun is a large water discharge that can deliver a high volume of water over a long distance. The deck gun can be very effective on large fires that an ordinary hose line would not be effective on.

Peralta Fire Department has been awarded an ISO Class 2 Certification!
Peralta Fire Department was formerly an ISO Class 4.
What is ISO?
ISO stands for Insurance Services Office. The Insurance Services Office score evaluates a fire department's ability to respond to local fires, which helps determine insurance premiums for property owners. A lower ISO rating means a better insurance premium for the residents. We want to send a huge shoutout to our volunteer and paid personnel for making this achievment possible! We also want to thank our neighboring fire districts Valencia County Fire Department, Bosque Farms Volunteer Fire Department, Los Lunas Fire Department, and our residents for the support as we strive to protect and serve the Town of Peralta and surrounding communities!

Peralta Fire Department is aware of the three active fires burning in the Manzano Mountains. These fires are not a threat to the community and all three fires have resources assigned to suppress them. Valencia Regional Emergency Communications Center is receiving an overwhelming amount of 911 calls reporting the smoke. Please do not call 911 to report smoke coming from the mountains.

Peralta Fire Department firefighters participated in training on drafting operations this evening.

What is “Drafting”?

Drafting is the process of drawing water with the pump on a fire engine and a hard suction hose from a static water source, such as a pond, lake, pool, or portable tank to supply water to the fire truck. This technique is utilized when a pressurized hydrant or water supply is not available. There are little to no fire hydrants in the Town of Peralta, so drafting is an essential skill for firefighters to know.

Training on drafting is essential to ensure crews can quickly establish a water supply and effectively operate during emergencies.
