The field at tonight's game was wonderfully crowded with the addition of 83 (!) BMS eighth-grade band musicians who performed with the OHS Marching Lion Band! The students, part of the largest 8th-grade group to date, had the opportunity to see what Marching Band is all about, performing "The Hey Song", "Land of 1000 Dances,” Gonna Fly Now" and other crowd favorites! It all added up to more than 200 student musicians on the field and a big WIN for the Lions Football Team! A great night all around!

Congratulations to our own awesome MHS teacher Mr. Chris Zuccaro, who was selected as WEWS' "Teacher of the Week" this week! Mr. Zuccaro was surprised by the entire fourth-grade class and the WEWS television crew as they announced his selection this morning! Huge shoutout to OHS alumna Rebecca (Becky) Fleischmann (OHS '11), who nominated Mr. Zuccaro. He was her second-grade teacher back in 2000-2001, 26 years ago! That speaks volumes about the tremendous impact he has had on his students! Tune in to WEWS-TV on Friday morning between 5a-7a to watch the official announcement. Thank you, Becky, and congratulations, Mr. Zuccaro, on this well-deserved accolade! We are so proud you are Orange...for nearly 30 years!!!

In their desire to make a difference, OHS students and staff members ‘gave a little’ and saved a lot of lives by participating in the American Red Cross Blood Drive held at the high school on September 9th. A total of 18 pints of blood was collected. Each pint can help up to three patients if the blood is separated into its different components, so the drive could potentially impact the lives of more than 50 patients. The drive was held under the direction of School Nurse and Red Cross Club Advisor Megan Kuhlman. Red Cross Club volunteers not only donated blood and time but also provided juice, snacks, and support to other donors. Another District-wide drive will be held on December 3rd.

The OHS American Red Cross Club has set its goal at 100 pints this school year, which would make the club eligible to receive more than $1,000 in scholarship money for graduating seniors who have donated blood or are active club members.

We are grateful to all who participated!

There was no slipping up as MHS 4th graders cleaned up on their latest project! The students had the opportunity to take the cake (of soap, that is) as they celebrated the completion of Reading Unit 1 and the book "The Tiger Rising" by Kate DiCamillo. In the book, the hero whittles important objects out of wood. Fourth-grade teachers Maria Kehres and Stephanie Pawlaczyk decided to give the students an engaging, hands-on opportunity to carve their own important objects using a bar of soap instead. Some even dressed the part! Have a great holiday weekend, everyone. Classes resume on Tuesday, September 8th.

Congratulations to the OHS Marching Lion Band/Lionettes who got up at the crack of dawn this morning (okay, earlier than dawn!) to be a part of the "Kickin' It with Kenny" segments on Fox8. Due to weather and construction issues, Kenny & crew came to our house, filming live in the OHS Auditorium, instead of going to the Rock Hall as in previous years. Our group looked and sounded outstanding as usual! Check out some photos and video clips here...and catch the band in performance tonight at the Varsity Football Game following the Boosters' Tailgate! Go Lions! Go Marching Lions! Go Orange!
