Est. 1992 Heart of Illinois Harvest is powered by our volunteers, our Board of Directors, our in-kind services and our commitment to eliminating waste of much needed food. With this additional food, many agencies are able to lower their food budgets and fund additional services.

Heart of Illinois Harvest is a local not-for-profit food rescue program that daily transports surplus donated food to local food pantries and missions for free distribution to those in need. Harvest is in our 29th year of transporting food. Harvest is powered by volunteers. We have 1 part time paid coordinator; Tina Johnson and the rest of the program is entirely volunteers.

If you are retired or need to do Community Service and would like something fun and gratifying to do, please give Heart of Illinois Harvest a look. Harvest needs a few more flexible volunteers. Harvest runs 6 days a week, mostly in the mornings. Our box truck and van are kept at the Metro Centre. Our volunteers usually leave around 7:30 AM and usually return before noon. We normally try to have a crew of 3 people on the truck and 2 in the van.

You do not need to have a special license and you only need to be able to lift around 15 pounds. Many of Harvest's volunteers have been doing this for years and several volunteers work multiple days a week.

If you would like to ride along and see what we do and why we do it, please contact Tina at 309-693-0876 or e-mail her at [email protected]. You can check out our website at

Thank you for your consideration.

Heart of Illinois Harvest would like to thank the Community Foundation of Central Illinois and all of their donors, including individuals, corporations, private foundations and all others who continue to donate to the Central Illinois Disaster Recovery Fund to help magnify their support of local COVID-19 relief efforts!

HOI Harvest was awarded $5,000 to assist our ongoing efforts to safely transport donated and unused food to other local non-profits working the front lines to make sure Central Illinois' most vulnerable can still find a meal during these most trying times.

God Bless everyone who is still thinking of others even whilst your own businesses and personal savings have been affected by this epidemic!

🌾HOI Harvest and your entire community thank you!

Thank you for the recognition, and also for your collective generosity, Methodist College!

Thank you for the recognition, and also for your collective generosity, Methodist College!

(Excuse the blurry photo but we want to recognize an important resource in our community.) Heart of Illinois Harvest picks up unused food from restaurants and stores and distributes to food pantries and organizations in need. We have closed Ollie’s Cafe during the time our students are off-campus. These gentlemen came this morning and picked up food that would have gone to waste. We are grateful. Thank you to Miss Clara and her cafe staff, and Mr. Soffietti, our CFO (pictured left) and Nancy from our Finance department (pictured right) for their work on this project.

Our hearts go out to all of our local Small Businesses affected by this on-going pandemic. In particular, our local restaurants, who have all been directly asked by the government to stop all dine-in services. On behalf of your community we appreciate your sacrifices to help slow this pandemic.

If you know of any business looking to get perishables that can not be frozen or saved to those in need...

Please give HOIHarvest.org a call, text or email with at least a days notice so that we can schedule a pick up time with you to help get those perishables to the local Food Pantries working hard to safely distribute food to those who need it most.

Please reach us @ 309-693-0876 or at [email protected]

Bless you!
