🚧Sickle Cell Awareness Walk and Health & Wellness Block Party -- Sept. 19🚧
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, the Sickle Cell Awareness Walk and South Peoria Neighborhood Health & Wellness Block Party will take place at the Proctor Recreation Center, 309 S. DuSable St.

No streets will be closed during the walk. Participants will utilize sidewalks and crosswalks around the Proctor Recreation Center. The block party will be held at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 1505 W. Martin St.

🚧Road Impacts for Richwoods High School Homecoming Parade -- Sept. 17🚧
Beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, rolling lane restrictions will be in effect on several city streets for the Richwoods High School Homecoming Parade.

The Peoria Police Department and Peoria Fire Department will es**rt the parade. Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.

Parade Route
• The parade will begin at Richwoods High School, 6301 N. University Street, and cross W. Northmoor Road onto N. Rosemead Drive.

• From N. Rosemead Drive, the parade will travel south before heading east on W. Devereux Drive, west on W. Daytona Drive, north on N. Keenland Avenue, west on W. Oakglen Drive, and then north on N. Rosemead Drive.

• The parade will then travel east on W. Northmoor Road before returning to Richwoods High School.

Beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, S.W. Water Street will be closed between Harrison Street and Liberty Street for Simantel’s Smoke on the Water event. The event is private and not open to the public.

Parking restrictions will be in effect in the 300 block of S.W. Water Street. Drivers should utilize S.W. Washington Street as an alternative route. Drivers should be mindful of this closure and use extra caution in the area.

‼️ Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Tomorrow ‼️

The Peoria County Sustainability & Resource Conservation Department and GFL will be hosting two more Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events this year. These collection events are open to Peoria County residents only.

These events will be held on:

📅 September 12 from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Three Sisters Park, 17189 IL-29, Chillicothe

📅 October 10 from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Alpha Park, 1525 W Garfield Ave, Bartonville

No registration or appointments are required. Leave acceptable HHW items in their original packaging so that materials are clearly labeled. For additional information about what HHW items are accepted at these events, visit the Peoria County HHW webpage at https://www.peoriacounty.gov/1018/Household-Hazardous-Waste.

Items with year-round collection options include cell phones, electronics, fire extinguishers, latex and oil-based paint, lithium-ion batteries, medications, needles and sharps, and tires. 🚧MacArthur Highway Traffic Pattern Changes -- Sept. 9🚧
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, traffic patterns will change on MacArthur Highway between W. McBean Street and W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue. The changes are necessary as part of the MacArthur Highway Reconstruction Project – MacArthur Bridge to Howett Street.

Drivers should follow all posted detour routes, use caution in the area, and be mindful of the new traffic patterns. The use of alternative routes is advised.

Road Closure
• W. McBean Street will close to through traffic on the west side of the S. MacArthur Highway Intersection.

o Westbound W. McBean Street through traffic should utilize S. MacArthur Highway. Eastbound W. McBean Street through traffic should utilize S. Saratoga Street to W. Hurlburt Street.

• REMINDER: MacArthur Highway remains northbound only from S.W. Jefferson Avenue to W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.

Road Reopening
• W. Hurlburt Street will reopen to all traffic on the west side of the N. MacArthur Highway Intersection.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. and lasting until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, rolling lane closures will be in effect on N.E. Monroe Street and Hamilton Boulevard for the La Caravana Vehicle Parade, sponsored by Maria Miranda.

Parade Route
• The La Caravana Vehicle Parade will begin at Morton Square Park, 901 N.E. Monroe St. The parade will travel southwest on N.E. Monroe Street to Hamilton Boulevard before heading east on Hamilton Boulevard and concluding at the Caterpillar parking lot, 100 Hamilton Blvd.
