Happy Birthday Louise Thompson Patterson!

Comrade Patterson is an unsung heroine of the African American freedom movement and proponent of socialism. Along with Claudia Jones and others, she theorized the triple oppression (race, class and gender) of African American and other women of color. She was also a co-theorizer along with her husband, William L. Patterson, of the centrality of the Black freedom movement to fight against racism and class unity.

Call, write, or visit your U.S. Senators and Representative and demand they co-sponsor and support S. 5284, the Green New Deal for Public Housing Act, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rep. Delia Ramirez, along with 40 House and six Senate co-sponsors.

Our nation is facing a climate emergency and an affordable housing crisis. This bill would provide a generational rebuild of our nation's public housing stock that decarbonizes neighborhoods and delivers thousands of union-wage jobs.

On this Labor Day, join with the Building Trades and other trade unions and organizations supporting this bill to fulfill housing as a human right and provide sustainability and resiliency for communities across our country!

Back to school: Fund SNAP not ICE!

Call, write, or visit your U.S. Senators and Representative as the new school year starts to demand they immediately stop school-bus ICE raids and restore funds to SNAP and Medicaid! Congress should be making it easier for children to arrive at school healthy and ready to learn, not funding ICE's seizing of parents at school bus stops while cutting funds for health coverage, nutrition assistance, and resources that schools rely on.

Investigate the ongoing ICE raids in Connecticut and Texas with full accountability for the targeting and terrorizing of families at schools, daycares, and bus stops. Stop funding ICE! In the upcoming Farm Bill, reject any new cuts to nutrition and healthcare programs for children and families’ basic needs! Restore and expand funds to SNAP and Medicaid!
