To all our City of Pensacola employees, I want to say thank you for your continued commitment to serving our residents and making our city a better place.

I want you to know that your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.

And to everyone who works in our community, from small business owners and entrepreneurs to service workers and essential employees, you are the heartbeat of our city.

We are stronger because of you.

The August Mayor’s Neighborhood Cleanup collected 53.82 tons (107,640 pounds) of bulk waste, 72 tires and 851 gallons of paint.

These Neighborhood Cleanups allow residents to leave eligible items at the curb on cleanup day to be picked up by City Sanitation Services.

The next Neighborhood Cleanup is set for Sept. 26 in the area northeast of Pensacola International Airport and between 9th Avenue and Spanish Trail Road.

On this week’s Minute with the Mayor, I talk about the Workforce Summit hosted at City Hall on Wednesday.

More than 50 leaders from the world of aerospace, education, marine, workforce development, and government joined me for what is sure to be the first of many conversations on how to address workforce readiness in our city.

I appreciate everyone who came out and took time out of their busy schedules to have a thoughtful conversation about how best to help our citizens rise to the opportunity that employers like American Magic, ST Engineering, Blue Wind, and Birdon present.

Along with a general discussion about workforce readiness, we also touched on topics such as what resources exist, what resources can be scaled, and where are the gaps in our community’s talent pipeline.

Wednesday was just a starting point, and I look forward to continuing to work with the business community and the academic world to help focus our efforts so that all of Pensacola can benefit from these new opportunities.

Baptist Legacy Campus Update 🔨

Asbestos abatement and universal waste collection have now been completed throughout the campus, and all material has been removed from the site.

Demolition Timeline:
✅ The demolition on towers 1 & 2 is finished. Demolition on tower 3 has begun and should be completed, along with debris hauling, in early September.
✅ Independent dust monitoring is ongoing around the site, and the power has been shut off to all campus buildings in preparation of the main hospital demolition.
✅ The city is waiting for final permit approval for that work to begin, with the demolition expected to wrap up by January 2027.

Next Step:
✅ Site clean-up and restoration will take place until June 2027 to get the project ready for its next phase.

Affordable housing means something different to everyone.

For some residents, affordability may mean a $1,000 monthly rent or mortgage payment. For others, it may mean $1,800 a month or somewhere in between.

That is why the City of Pensacola is working to address affordability across all levels of income.

From market-rate housing to pallet shelters, the city is exploring a wide range of solutions to ensure every resident has access to safe and stable housing.

I’m so grateful to the leaders who came out today for the Workforce Summit.

As I have said many times, my laser-focus for this term is ensuring that our community builds and supports the talent pipeline needed to make sure that projects like Birdon and partners like ST Engineering have the talent pool they need to thrive here.

We didn’t solve every problem in this first go-around, but we did learn an important lesson: The answers are in the room.

The conversation focused on what the workforce development landscape is like statewide, what industry leaders in our region see as gaps, what programs exist that we can scale, as well as funding flexibility and resource deployment.

There’s more work to do – and this conversation will give us a strong basis to move the ball forward.
