UPDATE 9.14.26: Once the Bayview Tennis Court Resurfacing Project begins on Wednesday, Sept. 16, all six courts will close and be resurfaced at the same time. This will allow the project to move forward without disrupting the resurfacing work and cut the completion timeline in half.

🌳 Direction 25 park revitalization projects are moving forward across the city, with improvements happening now and more on the way.

Here’s what’s happening at parks around Pensacola:
➡️ Roger Scott Pool: Site work permit applications submitted, pending approval. Site work is estimated to begin Fall 2026. Permanent restrooms are scheduled to be delivered and installed December 2026.
➡️ Sanders Beach Kayak Launch: In progress. Scheduled to reopen in Winter 2026.
➡️ Bayview split-rail fence: Old fence posts have been removed and disposed of. New fence installation scheduled for late September.
➡️ Bayview Tennis Court Parking Lot Resurfacing: Delayed due to weather. Scheduled to begin next weekend, September 19-20, weather permitting.
➡️ Bayview Tennis Court Resurfacing: Project delayed due to weather. Reschedule date to be determined. Three courts will be resurfaced at a time. Markings for pickleball and tennis will be painted on 3 of the 6 courts.
➡️ Bay Bluffs Park: Site surveying and detailed structural assessments are underway. The project is expected to go out for bid in Spring 2027. Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2027.
➡️ Rev. H.K. Matthews Park: Basketball court replacement coming soon!
➡️ Hitzman-Optimist Park: Adaptive swings coming soon!
➡️Dunwoody Park: New playground announcement coming soon!

Keeping our parks safe and well-maintained takes a lot of work behind the scenes. A big thank-you to our Parks team for spending last week cleaning up Long Hollow Park, repairing benches, picnic tables, water fountains, and swings! 🌳🛠️

Starting this week, our team is moving on to other items on the to-do list, including:

➡️ Repair playground spinner at Bruce Beach Park
➡️ Till playground area at Gull Point Resource Center
➡️ Till playground area at Woodcliff Park
➡️ Repair irrigation at Plaza De Luna
➡️ Cut 17th Ave bridge area
➡️ Treat wasp nests at Eastgate Park
➡️ Repair and stain 9 benches at Granada Square
➡️ Replace basketball net at Armstrong park
➡️ Repair irrigation leak at Community Maritime

💙 In Memory of Myra Williams
Today, we remember and honor Myra Williams, a beloved member of E.S. Cobb Resource Center and the Pensacola Parks & Recreation family.

For more than three decades, Myra served her community, welcoming people, creating connections, and helping make Cobb Resource Center a place where people could gather, grow and feel at home.

Her impact can be found not only in the work she did, but also in the people she met, the relationships she built and the memories she helped create along the way.
While we mourn her passing, we are grateful for the years she gave to our community and the lasting mark she leaves behind.

Cobb Resource Center is hosting a memorial service in Myra’s honor tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

💻Learning doesn’t stop when the school bell rings!

Located at Cobb, Gull Point, and Woodland Heights Resource Centers, our After School Program is giving participants the opportunity to build their skills through hands-on computer learning with IXL and SplashLearn! ✨

These interactive learning platforms help students:
🧠 Strengthen math and reading skills
📖 Reinforce what they’re learning in the classroom
🎯 Practice at their own pace and build confidence
💡 Develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
📈 Build stronger academic foundations that can support improved classroom performance
⭐ Turn learning into an engaging, interactive experience

By making educational enrichment part of after-school time, we’re helping kids keep learning, growing and building confidence long after the school day ends.

A huge THANK YOU to Escambia Children's Trust for helping make these learning opportunities possible! Your support is helping us create more opportunities for children to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. 💙
