As a reminder, road closures in Downtown Pensacola will begin as early as 4 pm this afternoon for the annual Grand Fiesta Parade.

The parade will begin at 7 p.m.

The Grand Fiesta Parade will follow the same modified downtown parade route as the Krewe of Lafitte Parade and the Grand Mardi Gras Parade which means the parade will start at North Palafox Street, cross Garden Street, and then travel down to South Jefferson Street to Main Street.

Residents and visitors are reminded to follow all posted signage and remember that parking is prohibited on the parade route.

Parking is also prohibited on the following streets:

➡️Main Street between Reus and Jefferson Street
➡️Reus Street between Main Street and Garden Street
➡️Garden Street between Reus and Jefferson Street
➡️Baylen Street between Main and Wright Street
➡️Portions of Tarragona and Chase Street north of Garden Street

Vehicles will be towed if found on the parade route or the additional “no parking” zones when the road closures start.

Street closures will also extend to Tarragona Street, DeVilliers Street, and Main Street.

As a reminder, drivers and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area as heavy parade and float traffic is expected between Wright Street and Main Street, impacting Garden Street, Jefferson Street, Palafox Street and Spring Street.

For more information on road closures, please contact us at 850-435-1845.

From the days of the Model T and Ford Fairlane to the Crown Victoria and Tahoe, police vehicles have always evolved alongside the communities they serve. Today, we’re excited to introduce the newest addition to our patrol fleet - the Ford Explorer Police Interceptor.

Our updated vehicle design brings together a modern look, increased efficiency, and responsible spending. The new Explorer platform provides an estimated savings of nearly $9,000 per vehicle compared to previous models, helping us continue delivering quality service while being mindful of taxpayer dollars. Paid for with LOST funds.

We’re also transitioning to a sleek, single-color silver design, eliminating an additional $1,500 paint expense previously required for traditional black-and-white patrol vehicles. The result is a clean, highly visible design that maintains a professional presence throughout our community.

You’ll begin seeing these new units on patrol across the city in the coming months as we continue investing in officer safety, innovation, and fiscal responsibility.

What do you think of the new look?

May we walk in the memory of those who forever hold the burden of our freedoms.

Today we recognize Peace Officers Memorial Day and the sixteen officers of the Pensacola Police Department who gave their lives in service to our community.

This solemn day is not just a time to remember our fallen for how they left this earth, but how they lived while with us.

Men like Glenn Austraw who was an Eagle Scout and missionary before ever wearing a badge. Stephen Taylor, who even before cell phones would call home just to hear his wife’s voice. Amos Cross, who was skilled in every aspect of police work except working undercover because he was a man of such goodness and integrity it showed on his face to everyone he met – even drug dealers. Curtis Jones, who secretly rode around for two full shifts with a duck in his car waiting for the perfect opportunity to sneak it into his uptight Lieutenants cruiser. Detective James Jeffcoat, who spent 46 months in the European theater during WWII and landed at Normandy on D-Day before joining PPD. Clinton Green, who just days before his death served as a blood donor for a critically ill eight-year-old girl who was battling leukemia.

The stories of these lost heroes remind us of those who continue to serve today. Because the character, heart, and sense of humor that make a great police officer never seems to change. Today reminds us of a simple, yet profound truth: courage lives among us. It wears a badge. It walks a beat. It answers the call.

Our officers are the guardians both of the safety and the spirit of this community and today we honor those who laid down their lives in service to that mission.

"I invite State and local governments, patriotic, civic, and educational organizations, and the people of the United States generally, to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week in this year and each succeeding year with appropriate ceremonies in which all our people may join in commemorating law enforcement officers, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities, and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens."

We remember the 80s, Friday nights at the mall with a slice of Sbarro and plastic cup of indistinguishable slushy drink. Acid washed jeans and a crisp pair of reeboks carried us through the food court and into Spencer’s where we spent hard earned allowance money on band shirts. Pensacola Police Department supports safe and lawful gatherings that bring people together in a positive way.

Recently though, there’s been discussion around informal “takeover”-style events. While these can seem spontaneous and exciting, they often raise serious concerns around safety, property rights, and local laws.

Events that block roadways, disrupt neighborhoods, or occur on private property without permission can create risks for participants, bystanders, and first responders. They may also expose organizers and attendees to legal consequences.

We encourage anyone planning a gathering to work within established guidelines and laws - seek proper permissions, choose appropriate venues, and prioritize safety for everyone involved.
