🚑🚒 We had a great afternoon out in the community at Florida Power & Light's annual Touch-a-Truck Hurricane Expo on Saturday! Escambia County EMS, Escambia County Emergency Management, and Escambia County Fire Rescue all participated in the event, bringing along a vehicle that the attendees were able to tour inside and see the equipment our first responders use each day. Attendees also got a special tour inside Thor, Escambia County Emergency Management's mobile command center.

Alongside Pensacola Fire Department, Pensacola Police Department, Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Escambia Search and Rescue, and Medstar-Lifeguard AirCare, our Public Safety divisions shared information on health and safety, fire safety, storm preparedness, and more. With hurricane season kicking off today, June 1, Saturday's event was a great way to provide education to the public about what we do and how to become One Week Ready.

Thank you FPL for having us out! We're already looking forward to next year's event 👏💛

Our Corrections Department recently hosted a Critical Incident Stress Management training, offering a structured, peer-driven approach to psychological support following traumatic or high-stress workplace events. CISM serves as an early intervention model designed to reduce acute stress reactions, support coping mechanisms, and promote recovery and resilience.

During the training, attendees learned psychological first aid tactics, stress management methods, and defusing strategies for those affected by critical incidents over the three-day training period. Members of Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, Okaloosa County Department of Corrections, Crestview Fire Department, and Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida also participated in the training alongside Escambia County Corrections Officers.

"Escambia County Corrections was excited to host this training event that brought multiple agencies together," Escambia County Corrections Commander Scott Nash said. "We are looking forward to utilizing the new skills gained in this course, and we look forward to hosting more specialized training events in the future."

Thank you to everyone who helped coordinate and participated in this training. 💛 Our officers are committed to supporting each other and our agency partners when they need it most.

The military is an integral part of our community in Escambia County and across Northwest Florida, and we were proud to participate in the Northwest Florida Defense Coalition's Tri-County Military Mission Forum this morning at the University of West Florida.

District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger and District 2 Commissioner Mike Kohler gave remarks at the event, which focused on the economic role of regional military bases, along with strategies to keep Northwest Florida competitive as a defense hub.

The event was hosted by the Santa Rosa County Economic Development Office and featured guest speakers including NAS Pensacola Commanding Officer Capt. Chandra Newman, Congressman Jimmy Patronis, and leadership from Hurlburt Field and NAS Whiting Field, among others.

Thank you everyone who participated and provided an opportunity for this incredibly important and valuable discussion about the critical role the military plays in Northwest Florida.

⚾ Saturday was a great night for "First Responders Night" at the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Stadium, celebrating our local first responder agencies including Escambia County EMS and Emergency Communications, Escambia County Emergency Management, Escambia County Fire Rescue, and Pensacola Beach Lifeguards.

The stadium was packed out as fans came to cheer on the Blue Wahoos and meet our first responders. In addition to the fun, Escambia County Fire Rescue Chief Adam Harrison threw out the first pitch, ECFR Honor Guard presented the colors at the start of the game, and members of EMS and ECFR participated in relay races between innings.

We always appreciate the chance to get out in the community and meet the residents we serve each day. Thank you to the Blue Wahoos for recognizing the hard work of our first responders! 💛

We were proud to support the Chappie James Museum of Pensacola, Inc. this week as they unveiled their new sculpture, "Inspiration through Art," which depicts artist Ed Dwight creating a study of hometown hero General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr.

District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger joined the Chappie James Museum to celebrate the unveiling of the sculpture, which was created by local sculptor Randy New and donated by Retired Navy Captains Butch and Lee Hansen.

Artist Ed Dwight is a retired Air Force fighter pilot and was the first African-American astronaut candidate, later becoming one of the nation's premier sculptors of historical African-American icons. His work has been commissioned by businesses, individuals, and government entities across the country.

Thank you to the Chappie James Museum for all you do to educate our community and continue to carry on the legacy of General James.

🏡 Escambia County was excited to celebrate District 2 residents Isaiah and Avis Morrison, who received a brand-new home through the Escambia County Neighborhood and Human Services Department’s Housing Demo and Replacement Program.

District 2 Commissioner Mike Kohler presented Mr. and Mrs. Morrison with the keys to their new home in a ribbon cutting ceremony held earlier this week, joined by Assistant County Administrator Wesley Hall, county staff, and neighbors.

The county's Demo and Replacement Program provided assistance after the Morrisons' home had fallen into disrepair over the years, demolishing their old home and giving them a brand-new home where they can make new memories together.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Morrison on this exciting new chapter! We’re wishing them many happy memories in their new home ❤️
