Workman Middle School students had the opportunity to explore future career possibilities during a Career Awareness Fair held on Thursday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The event welcomed 7th and 8th grade students, giving them the chance to speak directly with representatives from local businesses, community organizations, and career training programs. Students asked thoughtful questions, learned about different job opportunities in Escambia County, and gained a better understanding of the many pathways available to them after middle and high school.
Thirteen community organizations and local businesses participated in the fair, including ST Engineering, Navy Federal Credit Union, Air Design, Sunshine Health, Fishbein Orthodontics, Pensacola Police and Fire Departments, ECPS Workforce Education, and George Stone Technical College. Each organization shared information about their field, the skills needed for success, and the education or training students may need to pursue similar careers in the future.
βWe are proud of the job visibility that this event provided for our 7th and 8th graders,β said Principal Derrick Thomas. βWe appreciate all of the organizations and businesses that took the time to come and speak with our students.β
Introducing students to a variety of career possibilities at an early age is an important part of helping them imagine their futures. Events like the Career Awareness Fair allow students to discover careers they may not have considered before, connect their current learning to real-world goals, and begin thinking about the skills, education, and training that can help them succeed.
The Career Awareness Fair helped students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities. By interacting with professionals from a variety of industries, students were able to see how their interests, strengths, and goals can lead to future careers right here in their own community.
Workman Middle School is grateful to all of the participating organizations and businesses for investing their time in our students and helping inspire the next generation of leaders, workers, and community contributors.
