This World Environment Day, take a moment to learn about a few common types of pollution and how everyday choices can help protect our environment.

Small actions like properly disposing of waste, using fertilizers responsibly, and keeping chemicals/medicines out of drains, can make a big difference for our community and our water resources.

June is National Safety Month, observed each June to raise awareness about preventing injuries and keeping workplaces, roads, and communities safe. It’s also a time to highlight simple steps that help prevent accidents and keep our community safe, like always calling before you dig.

Underground lines, both on and off your property, can be easily damaged by digging equipment.

To ensure personal and community safety, all area utilities work through a free “line locator” service to help you spot utility lines before you dig. In our area, the number to call is 1-800-432-4770.

It is important to call at least 48 business hours in advance of digging so that all of the utility companies affected by your project may be contacted for verification.

Today marks Executive Director J. Bruce Woody’s final day with ECUA, closing out six years of leadership and more than four decades of public service.

Since joining ECUA in 2020, Bruce helped guide the organization through a uniquely challenging period, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the impacts of Hurricane Sally occurring in close succession, while ensuring essential services continued without interruption.

Beyond those defining moments, his leadership style consistently brought steady direction, sound decision-making, and a focus on both the big-picture priorities and the small, day-to-day improvements that helped ECUA flourish across the organization.

While we are deeply saddened to see him leave, we are also very happy for him as he begins a well-earned retirement and looks forward to spending more time with his family.

We thank Bruce for his service, his leadership, and the lasting impact he leaves on ECUA and the community we serve.

Did you know ECUA maintains approximately 3,100 miles of water and sewer lines across our service area? That’s enough pipeline to stretch across the country!

Here’s a look at the infrastructure our crews work every day to maintain:

- 1,746 miles of water mains
- 21,132 water valves
- 978 miles of gravity sewer main
- 376 miles of sewer force main
- 19,241 manholes

Behind every flush, shower, and sink is a dedicated team committed to maintaining critical infrastructure and providing reliable service to our community each day.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Emergency sewer repair work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 1, at the intersection of North 9th Avenue and East Salamanca Street in the City of Pensacola - Government.

The repair is related to a sanitary sewer overflow inspection that identified a blockage in a major gravity sewer main near the intersection. Crews will work to remove debris and replace a section of pipe to help reduce the risk of future sewer overflows.

Work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 1, and continue through 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, weather permitting. Temporary road closures and traffic control measures will be in place, and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during construction.

ECUA appreciates the community’s patience as this emergency infrastructure repair is completed.
