The Federation was an umbrella group that included four major clubs: The Mary Mcleod Bethune Federated Club, Book Lovers Club, Idea and Art Study Club, and the Barnett Club. The Home also hosted many other clubs and social activities in the Black community throughout the decades including wedding receptions, teas, and Mardi Gras parties. Jordan Home was badly damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and was subsequently condemned and set to be torn down by the City. The tireless efforts of many dedicated volunteers helped to save this historic home that had so much significance in our community, and as of early 2020 the construction and renovations were complete. 🏡 We're honoring a quiet but powerful chapter of Pensacola’s story through The Ella L Jordan African American History Museum.

Founded in 1964 by community leader Ella L. Jordan, this home was created as a haven for children who needed stability, guidance, and care. At a time when resources were limited and barriers were high, Mrs. Jordan stepped forward with determination and heart, building something that would shelter generations. Her vision was simple and profound: every child deserves a foundation strong enough to stand on.

For more than 60 years, the Ella L. Jordan Home has continued that mission, providing support, structure, and opportunity for young people in our community. Like a steady beacon along the shoreline, it has remained constant through changing tides, offering hope and direction when it matters most.
