A little more on the new Ladder 6.
Ladder 6: A Modern Asset for a Demanding Mission
On Monday, April 21, 2025, Escambia County Fire Rescue proudly placed Ladder 6 into service—an advanced, purpose-built apparatus designed to meet the growing needs of our community with improved capability, safety, and efficiency.
Enhanced Cab Features
Ladder 6 is built on a custom 2024 E-One Cyclone chassis and is equipped with seating for four personnel. Three of these seats are integrated with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) mounts to ensure rapid deployment. The cab also includes dual internal compartments accessible from both inside and outside the vehicle, enhancing gear access. Wireless communication headsets allow all crew members to communicate clearly, while protecting their hearing from high-decibel environments. The driver and officer also have the ability to communicate via UHF radio directly from their headsets.
Pump and Tank Capacity
Ladder 6 features a 1500 gallon-per-minute pump paired with a 500-gallon booster tank. This configuration provides a reliable and immediate water supply during initial operations, particularly when hydrants are not immediately accessible.
Hose Complement
The apparatus carries a comprehensive selection of attack and supply lines to support a variety of fireground scenarios:
• (1) 150-foot 1 ¾” crosslay with a smooth bore nozzle
• (1) 200-foot 1 ¾” crosslay with a “Chief’s 150@50” combination nozzle
• (1) 200-foot 2 ½” crosslay with a smooth bore nozzle
• (1) 150-foot 1 ¾” front bumper line with a break-away “Chief’s” nozzle
• (1) 200-foot 1” trash line for small fires
• Dual 500-foot 3” supply lines located at the rear, which can be forward-laid for water supply or connected directly to the aerial waterway inlet for direct pumping of the aerial.
Advanced Aerial Ladder System
The aerial device is a 100-foot, four-section ladder with a pinable waterway and electronically controlled nozzle. The nozzle may be operated from the pump panel, ladder control station, or the ladder tip. The ladder system includes advanced safety features such as body collision protection and an auto-stow function. Scissor-style stabilizing jacks require minimal deployment space, remaining within the footprint of the cab doors when fully extended—ideal for operations in confined or narrow street conditions.
Operational Readiness
The crews assigned to Ladder 6 have undergone extensive training and will continue to sharpen their proficiency daily to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety on scene.
Ladder 6 represents a significant investment in public safety and exemplifies Escambia County’s commitment to equipping its firefighters with the best tools available to serve the citizens and visitors of our community.
