Before GPS, radar, and modern navigation, lighthouses were among a mariner’s most important guides along Florida’s coastline.

But it wasn’t just the light that mattered. Each lighthouse could have its own distinctive flash pattern, helping sailors identify exactly which light they were seeing and where they were along the coast.

Today, Florida’s historic lighthouses continue to shine as reminders of our state’s maritime history. 🌊
