Pensacola Sister Cities’ 2025 Gálvez Essay Contest was a success! Fourth Grade students displayed their writing skills and their knowledge of Pensacola’s history, specifically dealing with General Bernardo de Gálvez, hero of the Battle of Pensacola. 1781.
There are many skillful writers among our community’s fourth graders! Some essays were presented in perfect cursive, and all included students’ learning and witticisms: “many people at age 16 are working at Macdonald’s, but Gálvez was already a soldier.”

William Sadowski of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart was selected as 2025 winner; he is a student of Deborah Garland. This is the second year one of Mrs. Garland’s students was chosen as winner.

Outstanding achievement awards were presented to Lennox Shaddix from Creative Learning Academy; Cam Densmore is her teacher, and to
Calvin Burgoon, Pensacola Beach Elementary School. Erin Olsen is his teacher.
