Flashing Lights Mean Stop. Really........

We’ve received several complaints about vehicles not stopping at the flashing crosswalk on North Broadway by Riverview Beach Park.

Just a friendly reminder: those flashing lights are not decorative, a suggestion, or part of a traffic-themed light show. They mean a pedestrian is trying to cross the road and drivers are required to stop.

A few seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret. Whether it’s a child heading to the park, a family enjoying the waterfront, or one of your neighbors out for a walk, everyone deserves to cross safely.

If you see the lights flashing:
- Slow down
- Stop for pedestrians
- Wait until they have safely crossed

And remember: the beach, work, or whatever your destination is, will still be there 15 seconds later.

See the lights. Stop for people.

At 3:00 PM today, we’re asking all Pennsville residents to trade their couches, lawn chairs, and air conditioning for a seat at the high school softball field as our Pennsville Eagles take the field in pursuit of the South Jersey Group 1 Championship.

These young ladies have put in the work, represented our community with pride, and are ready to add another chapter to the storied tradition that is Pennsville Softball. Now it’s our turn to show up and let them know the entire town is behind them.

We encourage everyone to come out, make some noise, and help create a home-field advantage that can probably be heard across the river.

Good luck, girls. This is your opportunity to remind everyone what Pennsville already knows—when it comes to South Jersey Group 1 softball, Pennsville isn't chasing the standard... Pennsville IS the standard.

Bring the energy. Bring the school spirit. Bring your voice. We'll see you at the field.

May was another busy month for the Pennsville Police Department, with officers responding to 1,241 calls for service and making 49 arrests while serving our community.

We would also like to address a matter of public concern. After our last statistics post, several residents noted the absence of our playful commentary. We had no idea our light-hearted humor had become a community service, but the complaints have been received and documented.

On May 21st, at the Pennsville Township Meeting, Sgt. Brian LaPalomento was officially promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Ptl. Jimmy Endres was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Lt. LaPalomento began his law enforcement career with the Salem County Correctional Facility from 2001-2003 before serving with the Salem County Sheriff’s Department from 2003-2006. In 2006, he was hired by the Pennsville Police Department as a patrolman and was promoted to Sergeant in 2020. Throughout his career, Lt. LaPalomento has consistently demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and dedication to both the department and the Pennsville community.

Sgt. Endres began his career serving as an infantryman in the United States Marine Corps from 2004-2008. He was then hired by the Salem County Sheriff’s Department from 2010-2012, where he also served as one of their K9 officers. In 2012, he joined the Pennsville Police Department as a patrolman.

In addition to his patrol duties, Sgt. Endres serves as the department’s Drug Recognition Expert, handgun and rifle instructor, radar instructor, and is also a member of the Salem County SWAT Team.

True to form, Sgt. Endres arrived at his own swearing-in ceremony dressed in full SWAT gear because he was actively on the job and almost didn’t make it in time. Most people show up to promotions in a suit and tie; Jimmy showed up looking like he was about to serve a warrant.

Please join us in congratulating Lt. LaPalomento and Sgt. Endres on their well-deserved promotions and continued dedication to the Pennsville community.

Today, on Memorial Day, the Pennsville Police Department pauses from the daily chaos (and whatever creative driving we’ll inevitably witness later) to honor the brave men and women who laid down their lives for our country.

We like to joke around a little on this page, usually because if we didn’t laugh, we’d cry but today is different. Today we remember the heroes who didn’t get to come home, the ones who gave up their tomorrows so we could enjoy our today. Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedom to spend time with family, fire up the grill, and complain about the rainy weather and humidity like true professionals.

While the weather may not be cooperating today, it’s a reminder that Memorial Day is about much more than sunshine and cookouts. It’s about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country and ensuring they are never forgotten.

Please take a moment today to reflect, remember, and appreciate the true meaning of this day. And while you’re out enjoying the holiday, whether under blue skies or dodging rain showers, please stay safe, because nothing kills the mood like us showing up with lights and sirens while you’re trying to save the burgers from the rain.
