Reminder for all local businesses and landlords:

New standard for replacement smoke detectors are 10 year sealed smoke detectors. Feel free to contact the office or when you see any of our 3 inspectors out and about for more information.

Also consider installing a Knox Box system on your building if there isn't 24 staff present. This will assist the fire departments in investigating any incident at your property with no damage upon making entry.

Don't forget to change your smoke detector batteries and your clocks!! Spring ahead. Make sure you can hear the beep where you sleep

**Fatal Fire**

Early this morning fire departments from Pennsville and Deepwater along with multiple mutual aid companies responded to an apartment fire with reports of persons being trapped in the building. A fire was located and extinguished in 1 unit of the apartment building. A victim was located by first arriving units from Pennsville Fire and was quickly removed from the apartment. Despite efforts of the fire departments the resident succumbed to injuries sustained from the fire.

This is a tragic loss for the township and for the family involved. Several persons in the vicinity had reported possibly hearing a fire alarm sounding several hours before the fire departments were notified via 911 because "the fire alarm always goes off." Fire alarms, however as inconvenient as people may think they are, save lives. If 911 was activated at the initial reported time of hearing an alarm sounding, there may have been a different outcome.

The fire is currently under investigation by Pennsville Fire Code, NJ State Fire Marshals, Pennsville Police and Salem County Prosecutors. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.

-Deputy Fire Marshal Sooy

Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week (FPW) has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The theme of the 2018 campaign is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere."

As Fire Prevention week comes to a close we would like to remind every township resident of the slogan for this year, "Serving up fire safety in the kitchen." Due to covid-19 restrictions our fire departments, Pennsville Fire & Rescue Company No. 1 and Deepwater Fire Department were unable to visit our schools. Due to these unforeseen circumstances many departments across the state moved to online videos to share quality information. Two of our Deputy Fire Marshals took part in this at their career job in Robbinsville Township. Check out the Robbinsville Township Fire Department page and tune into these videos and leave your feedback here.

Also feel free to private message the local fire departments on facebook to potentially set up small group fire prevention events. Keep in mind that all COVID-19 precautions and social distancing will be strictly enforced for their safety and yours.

Stay Safe!

As we approach fire prevention month (October) our office would like to remind all residents of the township to constantly check your smoke detector batteries and change them twice a year. A good way to remember when to change the batteries is at daylight savings time. Due to COVID-19 all township fire preventions are cancelled at the schools so we will be putting out information on this page in the coming weeks. Stay Safe!
