Sharing this because i am not sure if everyone knows that blowing grass in the road is illegal. Help us by not doing this so we can keep our motorcycle riders safe.
The Local View (New York)In NY, sweeping, blowing, or raking grass onto a public highway is prohibited by state law. Under the N.Y. Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1220, placing refuse, which includes yard waste like grass clippings, on a highway is illegal. Additionally, New York legislators have pushed to explicitly strengthen these bans to include blowing or placing grass and leaves on roadways.
Why It's Regulated Safety:
Clippings on the road act like slick ice for motorcycles and bicycles. They reduce traction and can cause loss of control.
Infrastructure:
Grass blown into the street washes into storm drains, causing blockages, flooding, and water pollution.
Penalties:
You can be ticketed or fined, as this is often classified as a moving violation, littering, or creating a hazardous condition.
