Voting will take place at the Potter Fire Station 1255 Phelps Rd. Polls are open from 6am-9pm. The fire station is handicap accessible.

PROPOSITION #1 TO ABOLISH THE ELECTIVE OFFICE OF TOWN CLERK
OF THE TOWN OF POTTER AND CREATE THE APPOINTIVE OFFICE
OF TOWN CLERK OF THE TOWN OF POTTER.
PROPOSITION #2 TO ABOLISH THE ELECTIVE OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF
HIGHWAYS OF THE TOWN OF POTTER AND CREATE THE
APPOINTIVE OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF HIGHWAY OF
THE TOWN OF POTTER.

These positions would have to be approved by the Yates County Personnel Office in order to meet qualifications before applicants are interviewed by the Town Board.
The responsibility of these positions has increased significantly over the past years.
The Town Board wants to make certain the people in these positions are honest and competent to oversee millions of dollars of your tax payer money.
Currently there is no requirement for elected positions such as hours worked and experience.
Please understand, the Town Board is not trying to take away your voting rights, but are trying to protect taxpayer money and appoint qualified individuals to these positions.
Therefore the Town Board has unanimously decided to ask the voters in Potter to
approve changing these offices to appointed positions rather than elected.
A YES VOTE WOULD ALLOW THE TOWN BOARD TO APPOINT THESE IMPORTANT POSITIONS.

Notice to the community: The town highway department is getting very low on sand/salt mix. More salt was ordered 3 weeks ago but as most everyone knows there is a very tight supply right now. We are hoping it shows up very soon. But until then the snow plows are going to have to try cutting back on salting certain roads. The more highly traveled roads like Middle, East & West Swamp, Friend, Ferguson Corners & Italy Valley Rd will still be salted at the normal rates. The less traveled cross roads will not be unless there is a steep hill. So please travel with caution as the highway crew does the best they can with what they have to work with. Thanks for your understanding.

We would like to clear up some confusion that came from last night's town board meeting.

Our code officer Tim Pagel had reported that there was a fossil fuel ban passed by New York that all new construction homes under seven stories or less than 100,000 sqft could not use fossil fuel for heat ei. propane or fuel oil starting 1/1/2024.

He has since discovered and reported that the ban does not start until 1/1/2026.

We apologize for the mistake.

🇺🇸🇺🇸 Election Day 2023🇺🇸🇺🇸

Today while casting your ballots the Potter Town board asks for your support by voting YES for the two propositions put up for vote for the town of Potter.

If approved, the Potter Town board would have the ability to appoint the clerk's position and the highway superintendent position. In today's competitive job market it is getting harder to get qualified people to run for the positions.

In no way does this affect anyone in office right now. Changes would take place after current terms expire. The town board is very satisfied and proud with current staffing!!

Tonight, Wednesday October 25th there will be a public meeting at the Potter fire department @7:00pm.

We will address any questions or concerns about the two propositions up for vote at this year's general election for the Town of Potter.

The Potter Town Board is seeking to make the Superintendent of Highways position and the Town Clerk's position appointed rather than elected.

This in NO WAY affects anyone in office now but rather gives the Town Board a broader range (in these challenging times of employment ) of qualified applicants when the time presents. Current terms will be served to expiration if approved.

West Swamp Rd, between Reynolds and Ferguson Cnr, will be closed Wednesday the 23rd and Thursday the 24th for construction.
