FIRE UPDATE: According to Northwest Team 8 officials, crews in contained areas on the Hagen Fire continue packing up equipment, removing hose lines, pulling pumps and completing suppression repair where access allows. Officials said these efforts help restore the fire area and support the shift toward repair focused work. The Lakeview Hotshots arrive today to scout handline opportunities in steep terrain, identifying where additional lines can be built to bring containment closer to the fire’s edge, officials said.
The fire currently sits at 61,379 acres with 60% containment.

For the Paradise Fire, firefighters continue suppression repair and mop up across secured portions. Crews are hauling back unneeded equipment and removing woody debris from earlier line construction to reduce fuel. They are also gridding burned areas to locate and extinguish remaining heat. The Bonneville Hotshots remain engaged in direct handline construction along the fire’s edge, securing open sections of line and improving control. The fire currently sits at 9,656 acres with 28% containment.

A warming and drying trend started yesterday afternoon and will continue into this week. Expect more smoke and slightly increased fire activity as the weather heats up.

Officials are still asking that hunters and visitors stay out of closed areas and roads for the safety of the public and fire operations. Fire crews and equipment remain active on forest roads and within closure zones. These closures are in place so they can repair potholes, remove unstable trees and find hidden hot spots that make these areas dangerous to enter.

FIRE UPDATE: Firefighters working the Hagen Fire will continue to mop up and focus on repair and rehab opportunities today, Northwest Team 8 officials said. Crews will be patrolling and securing the fires edge around its perimeter as suppression repair and equipment back hauling will be occurring throughout the fire’s footprint. The fire, which now covers more than 61,400 acres and is at 54% contained, still remains active as crews look for opportunities for direct actions and containment, officials said.

On the Paradise Fire, officials said firefighters continue to focus on structure protection on portions of the fire and scout for opportunities to increase containment where the fire remains active. The Mill Creek watershed remains a focal point for suppression repair work. Back hauling of equipment will be active across many of the fire’s locations. The fire is now more than 9,600 acres and 22% contained.

Officials added that rain and cooler temperatures are helping with suppression efforts across the fires. Firefighters are making good progress on mopping up hot spots and securing edges. Rain and thunderstorms remain possible for the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain in the high 50s to low 60s. Rain has helped moderate fire behavior across both fires, but heavy fuels will continue to smolder.

Officials added that firefighters are moving into repair and rehab on many areas across the fires. Also, a Heavy Equipment Group is being formed to perform work as assessments are being conducted to determine opportunities and equipment needs moving forward.

Animals have been very active early in the morning and late in the evening, officials said. They added that motorists are reminded to drive defensively at all times and give animals a wide berth when possible. Also, with hunting season activity increasing across the forests and Labor Day weekend upon us, people should be aware of fire use restrictions and closures in areas they are considering recreating in.
