Salmon are part of what makes Oregon, Oregon.

Yesterday in Astoria, I visited Bornstein Seafoods and stepped aboard one of their commercial boats, just as we learned BPA will give the SAFE salmon program another year.

As governor, I’ll always stand up for Oregon’s salmon, our coastal communities and the jobs and traditions that make our state special.

In early July, I called on Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) to reverse its decision made in late June to end funding for a program that supports seven million salmon and fishing communities across Oregon.

Today, we got good news: BPA listened to Oregonians and will extend funding for another year.

This is a win for our salmon and our coastal communities. But a one-year reprieve is not a permanent solution.

As governor, I’ll keep fighting to protect this program for the long term.

Oregonians pay enough in taxes that our state should look and feel like Disneyland everywhere we go. Instead, under Tina Kotek, we’re paying more and getting less.

In 1987, Governor Vic Atiyeh left the Governor’s Office after eight years of service to Oregon.

Last night, his nephew Kevin placed a piece of that history in my hands.

Kevin and his wife Jennifer hosted us in their home for a wonderful evening, and during the night, Kevin presented me with a medallion Governor Atiyeh received when he left office.

He asked me to display it in the Governor’s Office when I’m governor.

Nearly four decades have passed since a Republican last served as governor of Oregon. I can’t think of a more meaningful reminder of the history behind us or the work ahead.

Kevin, I’ll keep it safe. And when we win, we’ll bring it back where it belongs!

Yet again, Tina Kotek’s administration is considering dozens of new taxes and tax increases. This is the fundamental difference between us: I will never make Oregon taxpayers pick up the tab for failed leadership.

For more than a decade, Tina Kotek has supported tax giveaways that helped fuel Oregon’s massive growth in data centers while continuously raising taxes on everyday Oregonians.

We cannot continue to be the Wild West for data center development.
