Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it’s a time to reflect on the courage, service, and selflessness of those who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

With the continued growth in southern Madison County comes an increased risk for trench emergencies. South Madison crews have been training alongside the Fishers Fire Department while working toward their trench rescue certification to strengthen interagency response capabilities.

Also a massive thank you is owed to the Town of Pendleton street and water department for making this training possible.

That’s a wrap on Week 10 — Live Fire Week

Recruits worked hard this week, putting their skills to the test under live fire conditions. It’s one thing to learn the skills, but applying them in zero-visibility, high-temperature environments requires grit.

We’re thankful to have great departments around us that are willing to let us train and use their facilities: Noblesville Fire Department, Greenfield Fire Territory, and Anderson Fire Department.

The SMFT express our deepest condolences to Sgt. Paul Kollros and his family as well as the Madison County Sheriff’s Dept. on the passing of Lars.
Lars was very instrumental in conducting several investigations throughout his career with Sgt. Kollros. This “Little fur missile” attended several of our safety days.
Lars, thank you for protecting Sgt. Kollros and all other members of our community and fellow officers. You are now 10-42. Enjoy all the 🎾 buddy!

We may be behind on academy posts, but our recruits have continued putting in the work.

During weeks 8 and 9, recruits completed RIT training and moved into vehicle extrication.

Recruits from the Fishers Fire Department and South Madison Fire Territory trained together, gaining hands-on experience in vehicle extrication. Over the course of three days, they worked on more than 30 vehicles while learning the tools and tactics required to safely remove entrapped patients

This weeks special ops training focused on heavy vehicle lifting/stabilization with a simulated underride of a passenger vehicle. Crews worked together to lift and stabilize the bus, enabling removal of the passenger vehicle and continued extrication and patient care.

At approximately 9:20pm crews were dispatched to a working residential fire on 700 South in Pendleton. Upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire involving multiple vehicles, a garage and residential structure. Crews were able to stop the fire before it extended throughout the entire residence. No injuries were reported and the homeowners were out of the structure prior to arrival.

Our recruits have completed Weeks 6 & 7 of the academy.

Over the past two weeks, they focused on engine operations, continuing to build the skills needed on the fireground.

Next week, they’ll begin RIT training, where they’ll learn techniques for firefighter rescue.

Wayne township Fire Departments first annual gun raffle!!!

Saturday May 9th 2026 at Wayne township fire station (18441 Durbin rd) doors will open at 4:30 and first draw will be at 5:30
