Have you noticed activity in the park and wondered what’s happening?

We’re excited to share that the Village of Pender was awarded $29,850 from the Urban and Community Forestry grant to improve and maintain the health of the trees in our community. As part of this project, 10 deceased or high-risk trees will be safely removed, 41 trees will be professionally pruned, and 10 new trees will be planted.

While it can be difficult to see trees removed, it is important to preserve the health of surrounding trees and ensure the park remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. As you can see from the photos the removal of these trees is necessary. The addition of new trees will help strengthen and beautify our park for years to come.

Best of all, this work is being completed through grant funding, allowing the Village to make these important improvements while minimizing the financial impact on local taxpayers. A special thank you to the Park & Green space Committee for their hard work on this grant!

Thank you for your patience during this project and for your continued support as we invest in the future of our parks and community.

PENDER UTILITIES - DIG NOTICE
The Village of Pender is required to complete a water service line investigation as part of a federal requirement to identify and inventory all water service line materials within the community. The Village has 500+ water service lines that must be investigated and documented. Beginning this week, residents will see Village employees working throughout town using a specialized vacuum (vac) trailer to safely expose underground water lines. Crews will dig a small, approximately 1-foot diameter hole to identify the service line material. After the inspection is completed, the area will be backfilled with sand and restored with topsoil and grass seed. This work will continue throughout the summer and fall until all accessible water services have been identified. For questions or more information please reach out to the Village office at 402-385-3232 or visit https://www.villageofpender.com/projects.

Everything will be quiet on Whitney Street in Pender the next couple days, but now that school is out for the summer things are about to get busy. We will be starting up at the intersection of 6th and Whitney and move west starting Monday morning. From that intersection the new main goes west to Thurston Ave, north to Main St, west to Carns St, and ½ block north of the intersection of Main and Carns. We will also be replacing the sewer main from the intersection of Whitney and Norris south to the intersection of Norris and Maple. All of those blocks will be paved with the exception of the short stretch north of Main on Carns.

There has been a lot of progress the past two weeks, especially with street paving. Five blocks have been paved in that time. One block is fully opened, with the others opening next week. Being ahead of schedule has held us up on the installation of the sewer main along Whitney since we couldn’t close that street until school was out, but that gave us time to clean up behind us, backfill the curbs, and restore the lawns.

Please be aware of the increase in construction traffic starting Monday. Vehicle traffic will be affected most once we get to Thurston Street. Please plan accordingly and thank you for your patience.
