Cochiti Lake is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico and within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Nation on the Rio Grande about 50 miles upstream from Albuquerque. Cochiti Dam is one of the four Corps of Engineers projects for flood and sediment control on the Rio Grande, operating in conjunction with Abiquiu, Galisteo and Jemez Canyon Dams.

🐠Eli caught quite a few carp at Cochiti on May 25!

🐟Lavender caught a northern pike here using cut bait on May 17!

🎣Louis Felix Montoya caught a northern pike using a crankbait at the lake on May 9. “It was my first time landing a northern pike,” he said. “It was a fighter! I used my wife’s $15.99 Zebco pushbutton rod — glad it held up.”

🎣Alexander Behrend, one of our followers, shared these photos of the fish he and his son caught here at Cochiti on Sun. May 24. One walleye was 23 inches, and the other was 21 inches! He used a Storm Wildeye Live Sunfish 2” lure. He said he didn’t take any measurements, but they were “huge!”

We are looking to hire natural resource specialists here at Cochiti Lake, as well as at our Abiquiu Lake and at our John Martin Reservoir in Colorado. The announcement closes May 15.

Responsibilities/Duties:
• Serves as the natural resource management staff specialist for a major water resource project(s) performing a variety of assignments involving all aspects of project operations to include natural resources, recreation, and dam safety.
• Participates in the development of various planning documents, including Master Plans and Operational Management Plans (OMP), for management of natural and park resources.
• Participates in conservation, preservation, restoration and use of project natural and cultural resources.
• Participates in all aspects of recreation management at the project.
• Enforces Title 36 CFR by educating the visiting public on project purposes, conditions, policies and regulations. Patrols project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, destruction of property, and to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; and protection of project land, water, facilities and other environmental and cultural resources.
• Investigates violations, issues citations, and testifies in court
• Conducts public relations services for the general public and for special groups.
• Develops and coordinates the project volunteer program.
• Assists with the project’s environmental compliance program.
• Assists with management of the water resource project as it pertains to the dam and appurtenant structures in conjunction with daily duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
