Charles E. “Charlie” Powell, age 83, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away from natural causes on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Casky Baptist Church with Pastor Jesse Brown and Pastor Will Stone officiating and burial to follow in Rosedale Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM until the service time at 2:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Charlie was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on December 22, 1942, the son of the late Hollis Stuart Powell and Margaret Clark Powell. He was a proud US Army Captain Veteran serving his country for 4 years and 2 months. He retired after 22 years from Broyhill Furniture Industries in North Carolina and served 20 plus years at the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff in North Carolina. After retiring he came home to the family farm and began farming for the next 30 plus years until his retirement from farming in 2017. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Casky Baptist Church. He was a charter member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Fellowship Baptist Church in Hudson, NC.
Survivors include beloved wife of 60 years, Jan Powell of Hopkinsville; his daughter, Theresa (Tony) Franz of Bellbrook, OH; his sons, Chad S. (Catherine) Powell of Forest, VA, Michael “Todd” (Shelley) Powell of Murray, KY; his sister, Peggy (Joe) Myers of Hopkinsville; his brothers, Paul (Brenda) Powell of Hopkinsville, Danny (Cindy) Powell of Hopkinsville; his nine grandchildren, Charles Franz, Isabel Franz, Marga Franz, Mary Franz, Henry Franz, Joshua Powell, Benjamin Powell, Emily Powell, Carson Gilliam; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Charles and Janice Powell Legacy of Faith and Leadership Scholarship at 239 Serenity Lane Murray, KY 42071.
