The fire service has a dangerous habit of confusing seniority with leadership.

Time on the job does not automatically make someone a mentor.
A bugle does not automatically make someone respected.
And rank does not automatically make someone right.

Real leaders make the people around them better.

They train hard.
Hold the standard.
Stay humble.
And never forget what it feels like to be the new guy trying to earn a place in the firehouse.

The best leaders in this job never stop leading by example.

Not all heroes wear capes—some wear turnout gear and run toward the flames. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the will to face it head on. Running in when others run out—that’s the heart of a firefighter. Strength, bravery, and sacrifice define the men and women who answer the call without hesitation. Every alarm answered is a life touched. Today we honor and thank you for your courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Happy International Firefighter Day. 🔥”

Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.
