What does a School Resource Officer get up to when there is no school? 🧐 They form their own Youth Connection Team!

This new summer initiative allows SROs to stay engaged with children throughout our city by paying visits to summer camps, local parks, and other hangout spots popular with kids. Not only can our SROs catch up with some of their students over summer vacation, but they can also ensure that everyone is enjoying their break safely. 😎☀️

If you see a member of our Youth Connection Team in your area, don't hesitate to stop and say hello! 👋

Our officers are LISTENING 👂 to your comments and tips, Pembroke Pines - keep them coming!

A quick DM on Instagram yesterday resulted in Officer Espinoza & Officer Lopez snagging these five handicapped parking violators at Memorial West Hospital. The drivers either had no visible placard on display, or were trying to use an expired/invalid placard.

Hospitals are a prime location where disabled people need access to these parking spots. Help us keep these spaces free for those who need them - do a good deed & shoot us a message if you spot 👀 a violator!

Traffic Officers Agustin Lopez & Christian Espinoza have snagged NINE cars so far today who were illegally parked in handicapped parking spaces. As long as this bad behavior keeps happening, our officers will keep issuing citations.

BE CONSIDERATE WHEN BEHIND THE WHEEL - leave the handicapped parking spaces for the individuals who truly need them or earn yourself a $250 lesson.

It's summertime and more & more kids are using electric bicycles, or e-bikes, to travel around their neighborhoods. Some residents have reported reckless behavior by these e-bike riders which places them at risk of being involved in a traffic accident.

PARENTS, make sure you provide your kids with the necessary knowledge and equipment to safely ride an e-bike.

🚴‍♂️ All riders under 16 must wear a helmet.
🚴‍♀️ E-bikes cannot exceed 30MPH.
🚴 Riders must obey all traffic signals and signs, and yield to pedestrians.
🚴‍♂️ If traveling on a sidewalk, you must give an audible alert before passing any pedestrians (a verbal warning works just fine!).
🚴‍♀️ One rider per e-bike, unless the e-bike is designed for multiple riders.

Our road patrol and Traffic Unit will be keeping an eye out 👀 to make sure that everyone remains safe on our roadways - no matter if you are traveling on 4-wheels or 2-wheels. Please travel safely & enjoy your summer!
