Happy Birthday to Critical Care Paramedic Brittney Blom! Brittney has many years of experience and brings so much value to the PCA team. She has been with PCA as a part time CCP since mid 2025. She dedicates so much time into serving our community and helping with lectures for our School of EMS. Her joy is always present at the station along with her calm and caring demeanor while working on emergency scenes. We thank you for your service to the Pella Community. We wish you a very happy birthday!! 🎉🎈🎁

Help us wish Reserve EMT Don Van Maanen a happy birthday! Don is one of our longest serving EMTs in the Pella area. A fun fact about EMT Van Maanen is that he and a group of other EMTs helped open the first official ambulance service in Pella while it was operated by Garden Chapel Funeral Homes. Since then, Don has continued to serve in many ways. You’ll often find him providing medical coverage at football games and other community events. If he’s not there, you might spot him walking in the Tulip Time Parade as one of the famous Wyatt Earp brothers! We are so thankful for the time that you have put into this service and into the community.

Over the weekend, we had our final training for the inclusion of Drug Assisted Airway Management into our protocols. What does this mean? This means that our medical providers at Pella Ambulance can provide another level of care to community members that need it.

In short, without getting too nerdy, we can assist a patient in critical condition by breathing for them with the assistance of medications, intubation or other types of airway management tools, and lastly using a ventilator or bag valve mask to breath for them. We take pride in providing the highest level of care for the Pella Community and surrounding areas and this addition into our protocols assists in this goal.

We had a lecture provided by Paramedic Comstock, along with classroom skills after. We followed up with an in depth, realistic emergency provided by SIMIA that utilized our skills and protocols. It was a great educational day and we are excited to have such an amazing and knowledgeable team of medical providers here at Pella Ambulance!

Help us wish a happy birthday to Advanced EMT Michael Sbrocco! Mike has been with us as a part time employee nearing a year. He was first introduced into the station after being in our Advanced EMT course and was hired soon after the class ended. We are blessed to have Mike’s fun and joyful energy in the station. He has great knowledge and experience that he applies to emergency calls and in the back of an ambulance so well and professionally. We have gotten to witness first hand the impact of his service to this community. We thank you for your service to both this community and other communities that you serve. We hope that you have a wonderful birthday! 🎂 🎉🎈

It is EMS Week! This week is dedicated to medical first responders and the service they provide to their communities. We at Pella Community Ambulance are blessed to have EMTs, Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, and Critical Care Paramedics who provide outstanding care to the surrounding community. We are fortunate to have talented, passionate, and dedicated first responders at PCA. During National Police Week, we extend our sincerest gratitude to the brave police officers for their dedicated service and courage. Thank you to the Pella Police Department, Mahaska County Sheriff's Office, and Marion County Sheriff's Office for protecting our community!

Tulip Time is officially over! Although we are sad that it’s over, we had so much fun interacting and watching all the tourists and the local community enjoy themselves with Dutch food, shopping, and bonding. We hope to see you all next year!
