The Pelion Police Department wants to Congratulate Chief Chris Garner for being the first recipient of the Pelion Police Department Commitment To Excellence Award.

The recognition is awarded monthly by the Department to members of the Community, who go above and beyond to support the Town, Schools, and Citizens.

The Department's Captain Odell says they wanted to give the first award to Chief Garner for "Leading the department, and advocating for the necessary training, resources, and equipment to properly protect and serve the residents and students in the Pelion Community."

Town Councilwoman Starr Corley says "He (Chief Garner) has brought stability to the agency through his professionalism, leading the Police Department in the right direction." She goes on to say that "Pelion is growing By leaps and bounds, and we are fortunate to have someone with the Chief's caliber as we continue to grow."

FIREWORKS SAFETY ALERT FOR PELION:

Your Police Chief, Chris Garner says, "As we prepare to celebrate our Nation's independence, please keep a few things in mind, including respecting our neighbors, and of course, follow the laws and rules that are set by the Town and the County of Lexington."

RULES AND SAFETY:

THE CUT OFF TIME: 11:00 PM ON JULY 4th - this means ALL displays are done prior to that.

🎆 SOBER ADULTS ONLY: Never allow young children to handle, hold, or light fireworks. A responsible, completely sober adult must supervise all activities.

⏰ ENFORCE THE CUTOFF: Plan your home displays early so that everything wraps up completely by the 11:00 PM curfew.

💧 KEEP WATER READY: Always have a connected garden hose, a fire extinguisher, or buckets of water nearby before you begin lighting any devices.

🚫 NEVER RELIGHT DUDS: If a firework fails to ignite, do not go back to inspect or relight it. Wait 20 minutes, then soak it thoroughly in a bucket of water.

⚠️ DOUSE THE SPARKLERS: Sparklers burn at a staggering 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and cause severe burn injuries. Drop spent sparkler wires straight into a bucket of water immediately after use.

💥 KNOW WHAT IS ILLEGAL: The South Carolina Department of Insurance strictly prohibits the possession or discharge of M-80s, TNT salutes, ground salutes, cherry bombs, and small bottle rockets (under 3" long or 1/2" in diameter). Violators face immediate confiscation and hefty fines.

🐾 PROTECT YOUR PETS: Loud explosions terrify animals. Bring your dogs and cats indoors early in the evening. Keep them in a secure, quiet room with a TV or radio playing to mask the noise outside.

Let’s work together to make this a safe, memorable, and peaceful 4th of July for all of Pelion!

Your Police Department needs your help in another shoplifting case - this one also at the IGA - This person of interest is suspected of stealing over $1000 of meat and shrimp, and left in a white Buick Verano.

The person of interest - on the RIGHT - has been identified, and THANK YOU for the information. The person on the LEFT was not involved in the matter in any way, shape, or form.

Your Police Department needs your help in identifying the man in these pictures, related to a case of Malicious Injury to Personal Property, which occurred at Pelion Laundry at 1033 Pine Street.

There was also a female with him, which this incident that happened at 8 PM on Thursday (February 26)

The streets of Pelion are being cleaned up, and money being raised for American Legion Post 101 with the 2026!!!

Officer Barnes reports that 10 people were brought to justice, with a bail of $200 each.

Chief Garner adds that several arrestees were bailed out with much more than $200, which all goes to the American Legion mission!
