Today, the Pelham Fire Department had the privilege of hosting an appreciation breakfast to honor the dedicated members of our department and the incredible community members who help make our department successful.

A very special congratulations goes to Deputy Chief Richard Hall, who was honored for an incredible 50 years of service to the Pelham Fire Department! Five decades of commitment, leadership, and service to our community is truly an amazing milestone. We are grateful for all that Richard has given to our department and the people of Pelham.

We were also honored to have State Fire Marshal Jon Davine in attendance to recognize Richard for his remarkable 50 years of service.

Thank you to all of our department members, families, supporters, and community partners who make the Pelham Fire Department the strong organization it is today.

On Thursday Aug 13, members of Pelham, Shutesbury, Leverett, New Salem and Wendell Fire Departments participated in a National Grid electrical safety class hosted by Shutesbury Fire.

This week, members of the Pelham and Shutesbury Fire Departments participated in hands-on low-angle rope rescue training led by Captain Ben Miller of the Northampton Fire Department and the Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team.

The training focused on the safe and effective use of the department's newly acquired CMC Clutch, Capto, and rope rescue equipment. Firefighters had the opportunity to gain practical experience with these tools, building the skills and confidence needed to perform low-angle rescue operations in our communities.

A sincere thank you to Captain Miller for sharing his expertise and providing an outstanding evening of instruction. We also appreciate the continued partnership with the Shutesbury Fire Department as we train together to better serve our neighboring communities.

Training like this ensures our members are prepared with the knowledge, equipment, and teamwork needed when our community calls.

Pelham Fire Department Awarded $3,500 Grant for Wildland Firefighting Equipment

Pelham, MA — The Pelham Fire Department is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $3,500 grant through the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the U.S. Forest Service. The funding will be used to purchase specialized firefighting equipment to enhance the department's ability to prevent and respond to wildland and forest fires within the community.

The grant is part of a statewide initiative aimed at strengthening wildfire preparedness and response capabilities among local fire departments throughout Massachusetts. The Pelham Fire Department is among several smaller departments selected to receive funding through this important program.

"We are grateful for the support of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the U.S. Forest Service," said Fire Chief Dennis Nazzaro. "This grant will allow us to acquire essential equipment that will improve our ability to protect residents, property, and natural resources from the threat of forest fires."

The new equipment will help firefighters respond more effectively to wildland fire incidents and enhance the department's overall operational readiness. As climate conditions continue to increase the risk of wildfire activity across the region, investments in training and equipment remain critical to community safety.

The Pelham Fire Department remains committed to protecting the community from all types of fire emergencies. In addition to emergency response services, the department actively promotes fire prevention and public education programs designed to reduce fire risks and improve public safety.

The Pelham Fire Department recently participated in a two-day Search and Rescue Drone Training held in Springfield. The advanced course brought together Fire and Police personnel from across the region to strengthen their public safety drone operations and coordination skills.

The training included both classroom instruction and hands-on flight exercises, giving participants the opportunity to develop and refine practical UAS skills in realistic scenarios.

We would like to thank Public Safety UAS for conducting this valuable training opportunity in our region as well as Springfield Police for hosting.

On Wednesday, April 15, Captain Hall participated in a group ride led by the Department of Conservation and Recreation to learn safe operation and familiarization of ATVs and UTVs. These off‑road vehicles are commonly used by fire and police departments to access remote areas for fires, rescues, and searches for missing or injured persons. While invaluable for public safety, ATVs and UTVs can be dangerous if not used properly. As with any firefighting tool, training in non‑emergency conditions improves safety and effectiveness during real incidents.

Crews returned to Mt Orient in Pelham on Sunday to fully extinguish and overhaul the brush fire from Saturday. The fire burned just over 11 acres in total. Thank you to all the mutual aid partners that assisted on Sunday.

Also thank you to Wagner Wood for all their assistance with heavy equipment / bull dozer operations and supplying food and water for all crews.
