Compact COMPACT: a collaborative community initiative designed to address substance misuse and mental health

COMPACT’s goal is to assist families across Shelby County by providing them with up-to-date information and available resources to guide teens back to a substance-free, happy, healthy lifestyle without entering the juvenile justice system. The team is implementing strategies aimed at reducing substance misuse and promoting mental wellness by:
• raising awareness & educating citizens on risk factor

s;
• identifying at-risk youth and building mentor relationships with students;
• promoting available resources
• implementing new prevention strategies; and
• using community-based law enforcement approaches. COMPACT’s volunteer led prevention teams educate, engage, and empower their local communities. The teams include representatives from different sectors of the community including youth, parents, schools, businesses, media, law enforcement, local government, faith-based organizations, healthcare, and civic organizations. COMPACT’s page serves as a government speech forum intended to communicate information to the public. Use of this platform is not intended to create a public forum, and administrators reserve the right to edit or eliminate comments posted.

Vestavia's Cahaba Heights Elementary recently hosted a special guest reader, COMPACT's Investigator John Davis, a Vestavia Hills Police Officer.

Positive interaction with community helpers is an important way to build trust in our communities. It's also a great way to make our day! We are not sure who had more fun, Officer Davis or the kindergarten class! We appreciate Cahaba Heights Elementary for having COMPACT.

Pelham Middle School recently held a Parent Night and Pelham Police Officer/COMPACT Investigator Callie Flores was in the house! We were excited to see so many of our campers from Camp Journey.

Our officers give presentations to students and parent groups on various topics like internet/phone safety and warnings about dangerous substances. It isn't easy parenting in this digital age but we've got you, we are here to help.

Pelham Park Middle School recently held it's 6th grade orientation and COMPACT's own Callie Flores from Pelham PD was there to meet and greet students as they embark on their middle school journey!

Now that school is back in session our communities will start seeing our officers in the classrooms giving presentations on dangerous substances, internet safety, and mental wellness.
