Pekin lands Epic Medical plant which will lead to as many as 200 new jobs!
---
The City of Pekin has officially finalized an agreement with Epic Medical to locate the international medical supply manufacturer at the City’s Riverway Business Park, a move that could land as many as 200 permanent jobs for the community.
“This project is something that has been in the works for a while now and thanks to the hard work of our staff, we have finalized this deal,” said Pekin Mayor Mary Burress. “This deal will create new jobs and create more economic opportunities in our community.”
Epic Medical has purchased 66.5 acres of land in the city’s Riverway Business Park for $500,000. Construction on the new plant is expected to begin this year.
“This project will create more than 100 permanent jobs in Pekin, and it will generate more than $300,000 annually in property tax revenue,” said Josh Wray, Pekin Director of Economic Development. “The Epic Medical project gives our community tremendous momentum as we continue to work on future economic development projects.”
Epic Medical is based in Singapore. It is a medical supply manufacturer and about half the company’s business comes from the United States. Because Epic Medical is already trade-marked, the company will operate as Epic Pharma Solutions in Illinois.
“From a legal standpoint, there were some hurdles we had to go through to finalize this agreement because Epic Medical is an international company,” said City Attorney James Vasselli. “But we were able to work through those challenges and complete what is going to be a long-term and successful partnership between Epic Medical and the City of Pekin.”
Epic Medical chose Pekin as the site to build its first US-based facility due to the City’s reliable and high-quality water from the Sankoty-Mahomet Aquifer, and the temperate climate in the region as well as the State of Illinois’ economic incentives.
“Investing in infrastructure is important, and this deal would not have happened without the steps our community is taking to improve water and sewer systems and our roads,” said John Dossey, Pekin City Manager. “This project sets up our community for future infrastructure improvements because of the additional tax revenue and economic growth the new plant will bring to Pekin. It is truly a win-win for Pekin.”
